RoMoe Perkins, general manager of th« Perkins Lumber company, at Paschall, Ga., was cleaning his pistol, it was ac* cidentally dilscharged, the hull strik ing his wife in the arm, inflicting a painful wound. Mr. and Mrs. Per kins left for Augusta, where they will remain until Mrs. Perkins fully recov ers from the wound, which is not re garded as serious, Trisco Jews Denounce Russia. San Francisco, May 21.—^The Jewish residents of the city held an enthusi astic mass meeting here last night for the purpose of denouncing the Russian government for the recent outrages perpetrated upon the Jews of that country. A large sum of money was donated and resolutions were passed j denouncing the Russian government. Election to Fill Vacancy. Montgomery, Ala., May 23.—Gover nor Jelks has issued a proclamation calling an election to be held' in Cone cuh county August 3 for the selection of a member of the legislature to fill the vacancy caused by the death o1 Andrew Jay. Vote on Bond Issue. Greenville, Ala., May 8.—At a meet ing of the court of county commission ers an election was ordered on the issue of $36,000 worth of bonds for the purpose of paying for the erection of the npw court house now under way. The election will be held on June 13. One-twelfth of the number of bonds are to be retired each year. The com missioners believe that the sum ol $3,000 can bp used in the retirement of the bonds without the levy of any spe. cial tax on the property of the county. Iron Furnace Collapses. Bessemer. Ala., May 11.—Furnace No. 2. belonging to the Tennes.see Coal and Iron company, collapsed Sunklay morning, wrecking that furnace and destroying the dust ])it and a section of the casting house. The damage is estimated at about $10,000. The collapse was caused by the vveaUness of the tiie brick, which lined the furnace and had recently Deen burned out near the top. Company Forces Lockout. Shenandoah, Pa., Apr il 20.—The Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron company foiced a lockout at every one of their nine collieries in this dis trict today. The men were notified an Saturday that if they did not work the full 9-hour day they could consider themselves discharged. ..en they repoited for work today they were told there was no work for them.
