DISTRICT MEETING.
A Red Letter Day for Odd Fel
lows in Spite of a Wet Night.
In spite of a wet night (Monday,
Dec. 9) Conestee hall was crowded
to its full sealing capacity. More
tlian thirty delegates representing
the lodges in the 18th district
joined with Conestee Lodge, I. O.
O. F., No. 237, in organizing the
district conference.
On the arrival of the train the
visitinjr brothers were escorted to
the hall and the local lodge was
duly opened in resrular session, C.
M. Doyle, ISToble Grand, presiding:,
and the initiatorv deerree conferred
in a manner and form to be remem
bered by all. After the labors of
the decrree were over, refreshments
were served in the lobby. The dis
trict conference was then organ
ized with J. A. Forsythe, president;
LeRoy Ball, vice president; S.
Qeeves, secretary; T. M. Ducket,
treasurer ; G. G Hyder, marshall;
0. D. Ledford, guardian. Reiiorts
f -om th(3 loiJges in this jurisdiction
were then received, after which
other important business relative
to the good of the order was trans
acted.
A vote of thanks was extended
the Brevard Light and Power Co.
for their courtesy in extending the
time of shutting off the lights to 1
0 clock to confer the second degree
on a candidate. The candidate and
brothers will never forget the way
this degree was conferred.
Many flattering remarks were
heard at the station Tuesday morn
ing 'vivhen the delegatCvS took their
departure, alluding to the signs of
prosperity and progress so manifest
in our mountain town.

The rumor circulated last week
that a petition was being gotten up
to discontinue Calvert post office is
without founda^tion, and is a false
report. It is unreasonable to think
that the peo^^le of Calvert section
vould sign any petition that would
>e to their ovrn disadvantage, as
^uch a move w^ould certainly be.

JAMES GLAZENcR.
Resolutions adopted by the High
School Department of the Brevard
Institute.
Resolved, In the death of James
Glazener,' his fellow students of the
High School feel that they have
sustained a great loss. He has
been a faithful student and a hard
worker among us during the past
term of our school, and his quiet
and retiring disposition endeared
him to his immediate friends,
though limiting the number of
those who knew him well.
We extend to the members of his
family in their time of sorrow our
sincere sympathy and recommend
that these words of sympathy and
appreciation be read aloud to the
school and a copy be sent to the
members of his family and that the
Sylvan Valley News be requested
to print the same.

by resolve that we have lost a val-

Mr. Glazener, by his quiet unas

teachers and pupils and was held in
high esteem by all who knew him
here.
“None knew him but to love him,
none named him but to praise him ”
We wish to extend our sympathy
to the members of his family in
their great loss.
