An invention to discard the whole process of tj^pesetting in the use of printing has been perfected by Gus- lavo Germani, a young Italian, who has been working np.on his models for several years in I'ittshurg. ApplIc;ition has been made for patents covering his ideas. The invention is calculated to revolutlonh'e tho art of printing, says the I’ittshurg Dispatch. Type forms vrill bo formed in relief on tho metallic plates used on printing press es and consist of v.-riting on the sur face of the plate vrith “etching ground” and then suitjectiag it to tho “cutting” action of acid whereby that portion of the plate which has not received the “etclung ground” is eaten away, caus ing the typo to stand oat in relief. The reading of proof is made easy by [;lac- ing tho plate under a mirror inclined at an angle of forty-live degrees. Im perfections in the type are quickly dis- cernod and can be corrected without trouble. Stork’s Joko cn Ship’s Doctor.
