Closing Exercises Friday Even ing, December 18, 1908. The entertainment given by the High School last Friday evening gave pleasure to many. The first part of the program w^as devoted to the exercises of “North Carolina Day.” Four-essays were read, showing" good work done by the j)npils First, “The Battle of Ramsauer’s Mill,” by Nathalie Forsythe; “A German pioneer,” Fanny Hunt; “John Henry Bonar,” Marguerite Galloway; “Settlers from Ger many,” Kathleen Erwin. Patriotic soiags were sung, and it was good to hear the little ones joining loy ally in the “Hurrah !” of the chorus of “Old Nortii State.” Patriotism, hero worship, cannot be too early instilled. Not only are the dead honored by the recounting of their deeds, but better still the receptive heart of the child is awakened to courage and fidelity. The Christmas part of the pro gram w^as principally the work of the glee club, and it is needless to say .that it was well rendered and greatly enjoyed. School work will be resume^ aft^r New" Year.
