Hood, of Smithfield, brother of D. H. Hood of the new drug store, 6pent several days in town and returned Monday to Lis Lome. Gov. Holt appointed Geo. A. Sim ford Esq., Judge for the 4th District to succeed Judge J. H. Merriuoan who resigned. Mr, Shu ford is a na tive of Henderson county and a fine lawyer. The negro who was taken up la9t week for stealing was carried to Smithfield and put in jail to wait the next term of Court. Deputy Sheriff M. L. Wade conducted him to his abode. When you come to Dunn either drop in at Young Bros., or call at the Times Office over Hood Bros., drug store and subscribe for the only paper published in Harnett. Mr Wood ard has preached here and at Benson and has a number of friends in tho community. Capt. We join his many friends in wishing him every success in his new labors. With this issue the Times closes its first yearly visits to the homes of the patrons, and there are some who have not paid us and some whose subscription expires, so if we don't hear from such persons we will have to stop the paper. Mr. Dan W. Galloway of GoUU boro, N C has located in our town and will buy cotton for Messrs. Sprunt & Son of Wilmington, Mr. Galloway is a good business man and Ave we'eome him to our village and wish him success. We learn that last Friday the last rail was laid, which now connects the Short Cut at Florance. S. C. . This is the shortest and most direct route From Jacksonville. Fla., to Washing ton City and during the month of March they have the trains running over this line. The numerous friends of Chas. I. Stewart, a native of thjs county, will be glad to hear that he! is now asso ciate editor of the Winstdn Sentinel. Mr. Stewart wa3 once editor of a Harnett count' paper and still has a host of friends in this community. He is a young man of sterling worth progressive ideas. The person who will give us in writing the best definition of a kiss by May 1st 1892. we will send the Times 1 year free. A bell at his residence in Sruitfield on Sunday February 14th at 12 :30 from a stroke of Paralysis. There was no important cases on the Criminal Docket. Only one important ease on the Civil Docket, J. A. Cameron against the C. F. & Y. V- Railroad, the plaintiff obtained judgement for 350 damage. A Big Fir3- On Tuesday night about 12 o'clock m. the store and entire stock of goons of Mr. Jas. A. Taylors was burned. The loss is probably $7500 no insurance.
