THE T1EV3ES, Published EverY Thursday, by YOUNG & GRANTHAM. .,.u .1 ii hi i i i in mm TIIU11SDAY. MaTICII 10, 1S92. Senator Palmer, of 111., is being talked of -for all lie is worth by hi9 friends as a presidential candidate The Senator said a few da'S ao at Democratic meeting.' that if the l'jesidcntal lightening struck in his direction he would not dodge. ADMINISTRATORS NOTICE. Having qualified as administrator of Rory McNeil, deceased, late of Harnett county, N. C, this is to notify all persons having claims against the estate of said deceased to exhibit them to the undersigned on or before the 27th day of January 1893, or this notice will be pleaded in bar of their recovery. All persons indebted to said estnte will please nuke immediate payment. This January 27th 1892. SARAH M. ANDREWS, Administrator. Feb 4-Gt. D 11. J. II DANIEL. DUNN, HARNETT CO. N C. Specialist in the treatment of akin diseases. Best of refeiences can be furnished upon application. Corres pondence solicited. Rev. Tom Dixon, who is a native of North Carolina, and who hns gain td a national reputation as a preach er and lecturer, and now pastor of a church in New York, will preach aud lecture before the Teachers Assemb ly at Morehead next Summer. The management of the Times has employed Mr. W. P. Byrd, whocomcs on with this issue as associate editor. Mr, Byrd ha3 recently heenc mploy cd on a large daily in Roanoke, Va , where he has received good newspa per training. lie will devote his time to the work of improving and increasing the circulation of the paper, The Democratic State Executive Committee met in Raleigh last Wed uesday and appinted May 18th for the meciing of the State Convention. The editor of the State Chronicle says this is Ida birthday and for this reason thinks it a lucky date. We have not been taught to believe in 'luck, but hi e Byron says, "One thing I am quite as sure of, a3 a laud lord his rental," that on that date was born a terror to Republi cans and Republicanism in the per soa of the Chronicle's able editor. The; new' Roanoke & Southern Rniliioad which has recently been opened from Roanoke, Va., to Wins ten, N. C, has been leased, and will bo operated in the future by the Nor folk & Western Railroad Company. This' means a great deal to Wins ton, and this already progressive city will receive an impetus from the new manogement which will in a short time, place it beyond all ques tion, the "'formo.it and largest city in the State. The Norfolk & Western Railroad Company hns been culled, Mid justly s, the town builder of the South. A trip a?ong the lines of this road will siioiv to any one the most devel oped sec". ion in the South. The enterance of this great com-p-uiy into North Carolina, hy the lease of the . Lynchburg & Durham, and the Roanoke & Southern, will do for Durham and Winston and that part of the State through which the lines pass, all that it is possible for a railroad to do. The Progressive farmer puts great stress on the expression of Capt. S. B. Alexander, "that the St. Louis platform is the one that all true Alli ancemen can and will heartily supn port." If the Captain meets with no better success in raising a third part' boom than' in his gubernatorirl boom of fonr years ago, why then the third parly is not in it;" neither can it be. THE THIRD PARTY. What are you going to do ab mt it Democrats ? Now that the impulsive and mongrel cenvention at St. Loui3 has at last consumated the long since concocted schemes of mugwumps aud -Republicans to defeat if possible the Democracy in the coming election, and have made a lion's skin of the third party, with which to veil the repulsive outlines of the Republican ass. Ara you to be taken in by these .apostates from the doctrines of their fathers ani the fair speaking of aeon ' vention composed largepy of foreigners whose interest is not in America nor with Americans but who, have come to wrench all they can from our peo ple and live the life of a shark? We can not believe that the Democrats of this State is thus to be deceived. North Carolinians are awaking to the fact that the prosperity of this people rests in the triumph of De , mocracy.and that the medium through which true reform must come, is the party of Jefferson. The third party is only a wolfe in sheep's clothing and we give the Democrats of North Carolina and especially the farmers credit for being able to detect the wolfs claws and are sure that they will not be taken in by any such de ception. It is hardly necessary to say that the Democratic party in this .State has a' record for honest admin islralion of its local affairs, and the wild schemes of radicals aliens and the loud pretensions of a few disenchant ed political demagogues can not turn the free thinker from his honest politi cal action.
