THE TIIV1ES, rcBLiSHED Every Thursday,, by YOUNG & GRANTHAM. THURSDAY. APIIIL 14.' 1892. 1.! J J"- "i! CLEVELAND THE MA.N- Since our last issue we lmve notic ed our exchanges from all sections of the State say Cleveland is growing! - . ing more in favor.' and we heartily i cncnr lie is the man for the South, i and the masses are for him. J WeTiave i iiYervie wc-d some ofthe best men from the different sections of Harnett, and not one of thfjm as we can find arc againstjhim, we are sure Hint the Demfcats of our county and State would like to ist a solid vote for G rover on election day in next November. FREE WOOL BILL PASSED. ' The other day when the free wool bill came up, the vote was 167 years and 4G nays. The following articles shall be exempt from duty : Bagging for cotton, gunny clotli and all similar material for covering cotton, composed of part or all flax. Jute or jwte butts, roping frames, winding frames, and all similar ma chinery from abroad. Hoop or band iron, r hoop or band steel. Thin bill seems somewhat better than the McKinley bill, as the mass es will get the benefit of this one while the already rich men became richer by the MeKinley bill. THIRD CONGRESSIONAL DIS ' TRICT. The last General Assembly of North Carolina having redistricted the entire State, this Cotigtessionul District (the 3rd) is made up of the following counties, with the Execu tive Committee thereof constituted as follows : JVsden R. S. White. Craven Cumberland Z. W, Whitehead, puplin S. B. Newton. Harnett F. J. Swann. Moore Duncan F. Mclver. Onslow Dr. C. 1 Thompson. Jones Sampson W. K. Pigford. According to the bwst authority every district in the State is now solidly Democratic by from 1,000 to 5,000 majority, on a basas of the vote for Governor in 1388. Even the 2d district, which has so long been hope lessly in the Hepub ioan column, to day, according to the above estimate can boast of a Democratic majorit of nearly 2,000 votes. To the 53rd Congress North Carolina should therefore send a solid Democratic delegation, i Pender county, heretofore a part oT this Congressional district, has been added to the "shoestring dis trict," otherwise known as the sixth, while Wayne, the home of Charlie Aycock, has been assigned to the 2d district, at present representing Cheatham. Fayetteyille Observer. A cotemporary remarks that "the Third party is the Trajou Horse by which Republican emissaries ire try ing to work their way inside the Democratic stronghold." The Third party is not a Trojan Horse. It is a Kansas Mule. Star. A California goat is charged with having eaten two umbrellas, a pack" age of stove polish and a large nor tion of a family bible. A goat with a capacity to absorb such a miscel laneous diet as that might swallow even the third party platform. Star. Rhode Island went by a amalt majority Republican the other da' in election. Hrown, the Republican can didate for Governor, polled 27,464; Wardweil, the Democratic candidate, 25,385; Gilbert, the Prohibitionist, 1587; Peoples Party, 188. It has been said that Brown gave $15,000 for the nomination, ' and the Goy ernors salary is only $1,000, much as he would make in fifteen years if no other election in that time. The Republican Convention in the 6iu District met in Rockingham, on the 7th to send delegates t the Con gressional Convention. Two factions arose hetween Brady and Gordon. Th Chronicls sa.ys th.i Urady fac tion fiom Mecklenburg, was recog nized in exclusion to the Gordor fao tion which caused the trouble. Gor don said he and his followers would remain in the court house until hell froze over and then stand on the ice. ; Brady crowd nominated J. P. Loekey . .of New Hanover, for Congresi, J. H. Young and A. Brady, delegates to the National Convention. Gordon faction nominated A. M. Long of , Richmond, for Congress, J. M. Smitn : and J. IT. Gordon delegates to the National Convention.
