AN APPEAL TO THE HUMANE- The North Carolina Society for the prevention oC cruelty to animals ap- peals to all humane people in tlie State for their support and assis tance. This society was organized twovears ago under a legislative character, with authority "to establish and locate branches at any place or places within the boundaries of the State." At thi time of its organiza-. tion it received a donation of five hundred dollars from a noc-resident of the State, who has recently, un solicited, sent a donation of fifty dob lars, with an expression of gratifica tion at the successful work has been hitherto almost wholly confined to Asheville and vicinity, but the So ciety has from the beginning looked forward to the time when it could extend its work throughout the State, according to the provisions of its charter. . It believes that a systematic effort to that cud ought now to be made. To make the effort successful it is ab solutely necessary that every friend of the cause should lend the Society a helping hand; first, b' financial support, at least to tire extent of the cost of an annual membership, which i isatpiescnt only one dollar, and second, by active assistance in exe cuting the plan of extension adopted by the Board of Managers. All de sired information about the plan will furnished upon application to the rSecretary and Treasurer. Walter S. Cushraan, of Ash'viile. Membership fees should also be sent lo him and will be duly acknowledged. By order of the Boual of Mana gers. A. M. Ballard, President. Walter. S.
