THE TIMES, Published Evkry Thursday, by YOUNG & GRANTHAM. jmURSDAY JUNE 8. 1893. Changeless. Onr fairest fancies fade away Like mists before the iun; The friends we loved in Youth n bright day Have altered one by one; Onr pleasures nre bat brief and few A while and they are fled; And naught is ours unchanged and true Except the laithful dead. Tne children leave ns. and no trace If left or that bright band ; Hut in each vacant, cheerless place Tired men and women stand; Yet till some little ones are ours That keep the smiles we know The smile we hid 'neath pure white flowers One dark day long ago. They grow not older with the years That nib us in their flight; Their eyes are still undimmcd by tears. Their laugh is sweet and light; They come to us, when sad and lone, And linger by our side With childish prattle, all our own, As on the day they died. Some cruel day may see ns mourn, Our dearest hopes o'erthrown May see the hearts to others tura We fancied ours alone; Our rarest treasurers Life may steal And ne'er again restore. But the dead hearts are true and leal, And changeless evermore ! Selected. The Value of a Newspaper. The Warrenton Gazette says the editor proportion to his means, does more for his country than any oth er ten men; he ought to be supported not because yon like him or his wrU tings or not supported because you dislike him and disagree with bis writing, but all should support a lo cal newspaper because if is the btst investment a community can make. It may be brilliantly edited or crowd ed with thought, but 6nancially it is more benefit to the people than the teacher or preacher. Understand me. I do not say morally or intellect tually but financially; and yet on moral question you will find most of the local papers on the right side. The Gazette further says that the newspaper is doing more for the up building of thecountry than any oth er means and for the ainount of ser vice rendered they are the poorest paid. While The Times has some very warm friends and good supporters. we thank them for their patronage, we would like at least to hare a card from every business man, There are many in our community who always like to criticise the paper and its edi tor, yet they always take everything offered free, and want to be pulled as much as any body, though they tell you the paper is no good. They wont patronize it. even, every day. it is laboring for the common good of the lown and community. Not a man in any town that does not get some benefit from bis local paper, and here in our town every buaineaa bouse gets some of the ben efit of the influence of the local pa, per. yet many never consider it worth patronizing and can't tee the need of one.
