The morning papers lay on the seat beside him in the ele vated train. He was reading with eagerness an awkward, crumpled little sheet . The printing of the paper was un couth for it looked as though half the letters were smashed. The impression of the type was dull and blurred. Alex Gilmore, tho Cumber land county outlaw, plead guil ty of burglary in the second de gree at the criminal court in Cumberland last week and was sentenced to ten years in tho penitentiary. Gilmore is want ed in South Carolina where ho is to serve 16 years of a 17 year sentence in the penitentiary of that State. A special tb the News' and Observer of December 29th from Lumberton says: 'Milbry Willis, an old soldier, aged 84 years, walked to Lumberton Friday, a distance of about 12 miles, to get his pension. He received his money and started home. He had only gotten a short distance beforo he fell on the street and died in a few minutes. He was kindly wrap ped in blanket used by S. C.
