The custom had almost fallen into disuse since more cordial relations have been established between the two races, but President Roosevelt's little break has caused a number of Southern newspapers to go back to the old custom of writing it "nig ger." This is one result of the "feeler" for social equality. A Deep Mystery. It is a mystery- why women endure Backache, Headache, Nervousness, Sleeplessn ess, Melancholy, Fainting and Dizzy Spells when thousands have proved that Electric Bitters will quickly cure such troubles. "I suffered for years with kid ney trouble," writes Mrs. Phebe Cherley, of Peterson, la., "and a lame back pained me so I could not dress mysely, but Electric Bitters wholly cured me, and, although 73 years old, I now am able to do all my housework." COL EUAN REMEDY CO., DinrMt, It., 0. S. A. Cost of the Boer War. The Baltimore Sun gives in teresting and suggestive statis tics of the South African war. Since the war began Great Britain has sent to South Africa 325,000 troops and has over 200,000 there now. She has lost—killed in action, died of wonnds or disease, prisoners and invalided home—lol,o79 men. The estimated cost of the war to Great Britain thus far has been from $750,000,000 to $1,000,000,000. There have been Boer soldiers in the field since the war began about 60,- 000; in the field now about 11,- 000; held prisoners by the British 96,000; Boer and chil dren in refugee camps 137,000; total Boer population of the Transvaal and Orange Free State at the beginning of the war 300,000. The figures prove what has been so often said in connection with this war, that it is hard to master a people, even though very inferior in unmber, when fighting on their own ground, particularly if it be in a broken country with which the army of invasion is not familiar.—Charlotte Obser ver. MOTHEk'S WORM SYRUP. Best worm medicine. Chil dren like it so well they eat it on bread. TOT CAUSES NIGHT ALARM. "One night my brother's ba by was taken with Croup," writes Mrs. J. C.
