More Terrible than the Lion.
I would not want to be in the

Stick to the Truth.
i
. I
The following bit of rural
philosophy was overheard in a
farmyard in the east of Eng-j
land the other day :
"Jatnes, my son," said a man
who stood mixing the milk and
water, 'you see what I'm a
doin' of?"
"Yes, father," replied James ;
you're a-pourin' water into the
milk."
"No, I'm not, James; I'mj
a-pourin' milk into the water.
So if anybody axes you if I % put
water into the milk you tell 'em
no. Always stick to the truth,
James, Cheatin' i» bad enough,
but lyin' is wuss." —London
Tit Bits,

The Sun is Seldom on Time.
The sun does not keep gocd
time. He is almost always too
slow. Once about the middle
of April he is just on time,
then not again before the mid
dle of June. At the beginningj
of September he joins the clock'
a third time, and lastly once
more late in December. Now
it would seem as if he were
startled at the way he had neg
lected us. In February he fell
back uutil he was fifteen min
utes late. By the beginning of
March he had made up five
minutes ol his loss, and before
the month is over he will have
caught up to within five min
utes of the schedule, mean
while the days have been grow
ing longer very rapidly. We
begin March with our nights
longer than our days. We end
it with our days longer than
our nights. In the one month
we have added to the length of
our day an hour and twenty
minutes, a bigger gain than any
other month can show.—Pro
fessor C. S. Schmucker, in the
March Ladies' Home Journal.
I,R Grippe (luickl) 1 Cured.
• "In the winter of 1898 and
1899 I was taken down with a
severe attack of what is called
La Grippe/' says F. I. Hew
ett. 111. "The only medicine I
used was two bottles of Cham
berlain's Cough Remedy. It
broke up the cold and stopped
the coughing like magic, aud
I have never since been
troubled with Grippe." Cham
berlain's Cough Remedy can al
ways be depended upon to break
up a severe cold and ward off
any threatened attack of pneu
monia. It is pleasant to take,
too, which makes it the most
desirable and one of the most
popular preparations in use for
these ailments. For sale by

How to be o Gentleman.
Let no boy think he can be
made a gentleman by the
clothes he wears, the hor9e he
rides, the stick he carries, the
dog that trots after him, the
house that he lives iu, or the
money he spends. Not one, nor
all of these do it, aud yet every
boy may be a gentleman. He
may wear an old hat, cheap
clothes, live in a poor house,
and spend but little money.
But how ! By being true, man
ly and honorable. By keeping
himself neat and respectable.
By being civil and courteous.
By respecting himself and oth
ers. By doing the best he knows
how,. And finally, aud above
all, bv fearing God and keeping
Ilis commandments. — Sunday
School Evanglist.
