The democratic county eonrention for
Buncombe county to nominate candi
date, tor the county offices was held in
the court houae to-day.
Before the hour for the meeting Gen.
Clingman and Hon. Reuben McBrayer
made ipeechei advocating harmony in
the ranks and praising the democratic
party.
On motion of Mr. Brayer, and in the
absence of Capt. McLond, the chairman,
Mr. T. C. 8tamrs was placed in the
chair and called the meeting to order.
On call of the townships all of them were
found to be represented.

Capt. McLoud entered at this juncture
and taking the chair made a speech to
the convention, He advocated harmony
and said this was his farewell speech as
chairman, as he would soon resign.
Mr. T. C. Starnes put in nomination

township, and his election was made
unanimous bv acclamation.
