DISPENSING DRUGGISTS, OPPOSITE COURT HOUSE, Asheville, N. C. A Final Vote on closure and the Elections Bill How Approaching -House Matters. Washington, Jan. 26. The senate met at noon to-day in continuation of the legislative day of Thursday last, the pending question being on the resolution to amend tne rules oy proviuing method of closing debate. ' Mr. Morean resumed the floor and continued his argument begun Saturday, in oDDOsition to the proposed rule and to the elections bill, both of which measures he claimed, on the authority of the New York Times, to be for the advancement of Mr. Harrison's project for a re-elec tion, r In the House to-day the rsual skirmish took place as to the reading and approv al of the Journal. The orocramme of the majority in the Senate as yet is largely a matter of spec ulation, but clearly their dependence is upon the presence in the chamber ot scv eral senators now absent. it is expected that not later than Tuesday evening a majority of forces will lie thus noj pros. recruited, and wnen tms nappens me uc cisive movement that is expected to dis- pose of the closure resolution will follow immediately. The time that would be consumed by the majority in opposition tn the final vote UDon the election bill in event of the adoption ol the closure reso lution cannot be calculated with exact ness. A majority vote of the senate will be reouired to take up the election bill again, and after that if the expectations of the framers ot the cloture rule are re alized, about sixteen hours more or less will be required to comply with its pro. visions (assuming that the minority re sort to everv Dossible means of obstruc tion) and bring the senate face to face with the final vote upon adopting the measure as amended by the senate committee on privileges and elections, I'robablv it will be necessary for the ma jority if they succeed in the preliminary Tbe Urand and Petit Jurors-Some Cases Called. The January term of the Buncombe county criminal court met this morning at 10 o'clock. The grand jury is composed as follows: W. F. Tomlinson, J. J. Miller, John P. Morgan, R. B. Kennedy, W. R. Miller, Jesse Garren, Henry J. Davis, Paris Dillingham, T. C. Staines, A. H. Wells, K. U. p. Koberson, K. u. ficicens, taney Allison, E. C. Cole, W. Y. Porter. A terrific snow storm raged in West Chester county early this morning. The heavy fall of snow hat broken tbe telegraph wires and telephone connections between stations along the Hudson river and tbe interior of New York. New York, Jan. 25. The storm which set in at 11 o'clock last night and contin ued until noon to-day, was about the severest of the season thus far. At daylight this morning the work of destruction had commenced and it con tinued until tbe snowfall ceased at noon when the wrecks ot trees and telegraph Doles were to be found on every street, while irregular festoons of wire were hanging on every hand and de tached lengths ot wire strung on side walks. No such work of devastation has been known since the great bliz zard of March, 1886, and it is a ques tion if that memorable storm was more serious in its effects upon tbe tele- movements to insist upon a continuous session of the senate altc the closure is anolied. as an adiournmcnt or even re cess might furnish the minority with fresh ammunition to continue their de fense. Should it happen thnthnal action ia taken bv the senate upon the closure, and elections bill lcfore the end of the week, it is probable that the appropria tion bill possibly tne pensions appropri ation bill will be taken up. In the house matters are in such a con dition that is is almost impossible to pre diet with much certainty what will be done, even from day to day.
