Not a day passes hut some overworked wagon, subjected lo the rough usage made unavoidable by the awful condition of the streets, col lapses under its heavy load. Then it is left to stand there sometimes for days, a menace to teams passing that way alter dark. They should be removed from the street nt least. Is it an evidence of good horsemanship to go galloping through a very muddy street, Hinging mud all over the pedes trians on the sidewalk ? The idiots who make a practice of this should have a lesson taught them. liven the carriage drivers have taken it up and trot their horses through the muddiest part of the street, regardless ol the passing crowds on the sidewalk. Who enn say how many "cloves" art taken by the large crowd that always go.s out of the oM.ra house between acts? It is highly fashionable in Ashe ville, and is exceedingly annoying to those who go there to see the plav and enjoy it, and not to make a show ol themselves. The city authorities should put some kind of post in the sidewalk at the western side of the comer of Chinch street and I'atton avenue. Drivers ol wagons and carriages coming out ol Church street into the avenue turn ab ruptly and drive across the corner of the walk. This has been kept up so long that that part of the walk is w orn down below the level of the street and is filled with slush all the time. Is there no remed y ? Tin; Tatti.i-.ii. Htock Quotations).
