C, March 20-Special.- Thursdny night's session of the Mate convention of the Y. M. C. A. was con ducted by Mr. Fitch Taylor, of Asheville. Rev. W. P. Fife, the drummer evangelist led in prayer and Rev. J. L. White deliv ered the address of welcome to tne con vention on behalf of the citiwns of Dur ham. Mr. White spoke of the increase in the interest in the V. M..C. A. work in I his state since the first convention was held in 1877, and spoke of this at truly a "vciiine man's era." His welcome was, he said, not Irom the people as uurmm. itcs. but as christians, and he expre&wl his earnest hope of good results from the j convention. J. K. Young, of Henderson, president of the lnsl convention, delivered the re sponse to this welcome, And stated thai the convention was brought together us representatives notof nnv denomination, but of the young men of North Carolina.
