Gresham, Judge of the United States court, was lor hours shut up in bis chambers in the government building with a lunatic. It wasabuut o'clock in tliealternoon when Judge Gresham, accompanied by a well dressed, good looking man, about 5U years old, appeared in the office of the United States Marshal, and approach ing the rail demanded, in a peremptory way : "Where is Marshal Hitchcock ?" Help! help!" As he was pluncing from side to side his foot caught on an obstruction, und he fell. At the Harrison street station McCon- ha said he was from Cincinnati. Later in the day be was taken to the detention Hospital. MEXICAN REVOLUTION. A Lame Force Headed for a Texas Town. San Antonia, Tex., Jan. 1."). The fol lowing dispatch from Ma. Morns in command at Fort Mcintosh was recei ved by Col. J. P. Martin, adjutant general of this military department : "It is rumored that a large party of revolutionists or Garza men left San Angelo, Texas, about lanuarv 6 or 7 headed for Del Kio, Texas. 1 give this lor what it is worth." The town of SanAngelo is in Tom Green county, fully 150 miles from the border. It has a large Mexican popula tion, which has been known all along as pronouncedly in sympathy with the Garza movement. A Horrible Mutilation. KalEigh, Jan.14. An old feud lietwcen Bud I'arish and Davis Langler, white farmers in Johnston county, has caused the perpetration of a terrible crime. The execu tive committee of the People's party, which now includes the Partners' alliance nnd the Labor parties, decided to put full ticket in the field. A convention was accordingly called to meet in Alexandria on Feb. 17. The People's party includes that wing of the Farmers' alliance which was separated entirely from the democracy and insisted uoon the adop tion ot the Ocaln demands. No l.'lttmatum (tent. Albert Victor Wai Tveul Klitlit Yeartt of Age, Congratulations on Prince Albert Vic tor's approaching marriage with liis cousin, the Princess Victoria Mary, only daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Teck, were speedily followed by public grief on account of his illness and death. Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondalc, was born twenty-eight years ago, the eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales.1' His life has been generally quiet and uneventlul, and no promise has been seen in him of extra ordinary ability or energy. Robert Ran som, assistant engineer of tlv; river and harbor improvements, of the Neuse anil Trent rivers.died suddenly at 1 o'clock this nn, ruing at bis residence in this city. He was out und appeared well yesterday. Gen. Ransom was born at Bridle Creek, Warren county, N. C, February 2,1828. He was the third child of his parents the eldest, a daughter, flying uite young and Senator Matt W. Han som, the second. He entered West Point in 1S6 and raduatcd Irom that institution in 1850. n March, 1851, he carried a detach ment l troops to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and in Mav accompanied the command ol Col. Ii. V. Sumner to New Mexico. He was engaged in scouting vcr the whole ol'New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, and Utah lor nearly lour years. In the late war he was pro moted Irom colonel to brigadier general and in '02 was put into a command of a brigade of North Carolina infantry. After the first of February next the maximum tariff of each country w ill bo- applied to imports Irom the other. In the chamber of deputies last night Senor Silveln, minister of the interior declared that Spain had received no oiler to join the Zollverem. 1 he government, he said, did not intend to enter into a league with any power. 1 he Lnanibei adopted the government bill prolonging the existing commercial treaties. The mercury registers 30 degrees below zero The dense cold revealed the fact that huge volumes of steam were issuing from les in the mountainside, three hundred feet above the town. Parties who have just returned from there say that the mountainside contains a subterranean lake of hot water, and a shaft will probably be driven to test the matter. Tried to Rob a Silver Mine. ST. Loris, Jan. 15. A special from Maria Tex., says that on Wednesday night an attempt was made bv an armed bodv of Mexicans to rob the Cibito silver mines at Shaftes.
