I will give you sufficient tunc in which to conlorm to my reasonable demand, say ten days. II at the end ol that time you tail to re spond I shall deem it my duly to give in substance their contents. You know full well that your charges against me regarding the marriage are unfounded. I give you ample oppor tunity to retract. I simply desire, now that you have! arraigned me bv the use of fragmentary quotations from my love letters to your son, that yon lie iiiir enough to publish the originals in full. In the senate today the Idaho election case was taken up and Mr, George stated the reasons which would control his own action in casting his vote for the contestant. The question, he snid, was a very interesting one and its decision was of great mo ment, not only to the state of Idaho, but to the whole country. There was no room in the case for personal prejudices or for the consideration of party advan tages, either now or intheluture. The senate's soh; duty and its sworn obligation was to consider the question impartially without being swayed by any consideration whatever except a desire to do right. The action of the senate should be purely judicial. It was the business of the senate, on this ques tion, not to make law, but to ascertain the law and facts and to decide in accord ance with them. In the house, Mr. O'Neill, of Missouri, Irom the committee on interstate and foreign commerce, reported the senate bill to fix the compensation of keepers and crews of life saving stations. The house then went into committeeof the whole, Mr. Richardson, of Tennessee, in the chair, on the District of Columbia appropriation bill, and Dockerv, of Mis souri, in charge of the measure, made a brief explanation as to the reductions ol the nppropi unions proposed.
