The Sunday New York Herald's predic tion of Cleveland'selection, which came in this morning, followed by a rain, put the Republicans iu Asheville in a very despondent mood. The value of the Herald's prediction was felt by all, and the Heralds on the newsstands were sold out within a half hour. This prediction and ninny other things put the Democrats in a happy frame of mind, and the streets have been full of jubilant Democrats all dav. The Re publican headquarters, looked gloomy. the only signs of life being a couple of negroes who leaned out of the front windows, looking disconsolately at the passing crowds. Tomorrow's election promises to be a quiet one, and bring out a full Demo cratic vote. The merchants arc to close tlicirjstorcs, and everybody will work for their candidates and give their em ployes a chance to do the same. ihe Democrats, up to the tricks oi tne Republicans, arc looking out for bogus tickets, and they have not been mistaken in susiiectini; thut they were being cirm- lated. Shaf fer, chief supervisor of elections and United States commissioner, was ar rested here today by Deputy SherifTs Brooks and Walters, of this county, upon a warrant issued bv 0. F.Grccory, clerk of Halifax county, charging him with having issued a warrant for R. G. Kcul, a state registrar of election, and had him arrested and taken to Raleigh, said warrant having been issued by Shaffer wantonly, maliciously, and cor ruptly. The warrant also sets forth that Keid has sued aliafler and his two dep. uty supervisors, Geo. F. All doubt has been re moved by full, conclusive, satisfactory advices from all the Southern States in which our opponents made pretences of contest, ns well as from New York, Indiana, Connecticut, New Jersey, Michi gan and Wisconsin. Information from the Western States justifies the hope that the impending revolution will add a number of electoral votes for Cleveland ns well as a loss of several others to Har rison in States heretofore Republican. Senator Osborn of Poughkcepsie having learned that a warrant has been issued for bis arrest at the instance of Assistant Attorney Mott on the affidavit of a hotel keeper named Bain, appeared before Commissioner Shields this morning and surrcndcicd himself.
