There are at present a dozen measures in behalf ol which the special order is being asked to set apart a day next week for consideration. Chairman Stump, of the immigration committee, has seen the Speaker, who asbured him that the committee would be given a dav for its immigration restriction bill. The Torrey bankruptcy bill is being pressed for a special order. It is not expected, however, that the bill will become a law at this Congress. Buckner and other members Irom the Great Iaitea region, are after another opportunity to pass the omnibus light house bill, which secured a special order just before the holidays, but received scant consideration owing to sum at tendance in the house. Special orders have also ljecn prom ised tor the Raum investigating report and the bill for the election of president and vice-president and of senators by direct vote ol the people. Bland has not yet preferred a request, but it is his intention to see the Speaker and ask another opportunity to pass the bill providing for the free coinage of silver. Harter and other uncompromis ing anti-silver men say they are anxious for a trial at the repeal of the present Shermati stiver bullion purchase law, and as a renewal of the silver fight is about the only thing in which the radi cals on either side of the currency q no tion seem agreed, it looks as if there would be another bout in this Congress over silver legislation. The House is today considering private pension bills coming over from last ses sion as unfinished business. There is a bare quorum in attendance. In the Senate today Mr. Hill intro duced a resolution, which went over un til tomorrow, calling on the Secretary of Hatch or Mrs. lulia Sluder The ladies interested in this enterprise begin this week to make a thorough can They dashed ahead and fired on the sheriff and his men who occupied win dows and doors. Proceedings for vorce has been instituted against Henry Hester, aged 76, by his wife, Eliza, on the erounds of cruelty and desertion. Some months neo Hester became enam ored of a young saleswoman. In order to gain her affection he made out a win bequeathing to her nearly $50,000. Meanwhile his wife was kept locked in a room for nearly a month, and only es caped through the aid of friends.
