Representative Livingston of Georgia is preparing a bill on the lines of an understanding reached yesterday at u conference be tween Senator Carlisle and seventeen Democratic members of the House, rep resenting the various elements, except the Radical free coinage men, of the party on the silver question. Amorg those present were Livingston and I timer, Georgia; Cox, Tenn.; Breckinridge, Ky.; Breckinridge, Ark.; Bynum, Inu ; Llark and Oates, Ala.; Uacon, New York; Tracy, Williams and Andrew, of Mass. and Brawley, South Caro'ina. Cox, of Tennessee and Livington, of Georgia, have heretofore voted steadily with the tree coinage men, and most of the south ern men present have, as a rule, voted rather reluctantly with the silver men on most proposition. Thhc "under standing" reached for those present sny that it could not be called a definite agreement" was to suspend the silver purchases, to reserve sufficient silver to provide for the redemption of outstand ing notes issued in payment of silver pur chases, and to coin at the rate of three million per month the silver represent ing the proht or ditlerence between the purchase price and the coin value of the silver heretolore bought. After this is done, silver purchases are to be re sumed unless there is new legislation meanwhile. . WHEBK'S NKW.WAN? He may be compelled to resign the gubernatorial chair of Ohio and begin the active practice of law. The conference which led to Kapesaats' selection as trustee was held in Cleve land Sunday evening. It was found that the Governor's liabilities were $95,000 about five times as much money as he had saved during the 49 years ?of bis life. Mrs. McKinley has property which will net probably $75,000 if sold under the hammer. She proposes to turn this over to tbe trustee. She is an in valid and her fortune came as a legacy from her father. Her friends protest against allowing her means to go to cancel the Governor's debts, incurred by another man. but she insists.
