As out of that the salary of Minister Alexander is to be paid, it is seen that either another mission or a a consul generalship or a high grade consulshiD would nearly exhaust the quota, and in consequence those who want consulates and do not expect a very big one are anxious to have several smaller ones given rather than anything considerable. Although con fidently expected by the Senators at the close of yesterday's session that thev would be able to adjourn sine die todav, the prospects of reaching the end were not so bright this morning. The judi cial nominations sent inyesterdav will be reported to the Senate today from the judiciarycommittee which approved them all at the meeting this morning, but a single objection to any one of them would prevent onfirmation today and send them over until Monday. Other matters of business are in the same position and consequently the question of adjourn ment todav lies entirelv within the decis ion of individual Senators, which mate rially reduces the chances of winding up the business of the session today. The President sent in a few minor appoint ments. Senator Flatt having the floor on the subject of the proposed investigation of Senator Roach, of North Dakota, notice was given by Harris that as soon as I'latt should have closed his remarks he would move to take up a resolution for the appointment ot a committee to wait anon the President and inquire whether he had any further communication to the Senate. I'latt stated the fact in the Roach case and argued against the views presented yesterday by Senators George and Voorhees. He conceived that the duty of tbe Senate was plain. Conld it be, he asked, that il a convicted criminal, iust discharged from the pent tentiary. were elected Senator by a State the Senate had no power to reject or ex pel him? THR A. L I.
