About a week ago Dr. Walker Hill, a full blood Indian doctor, came to Ashe vilie from Tennessee, accompanied by bis wife. The couple stopp-d at the Allen house, South Main street. Last night Special Policeman V. II. Deaver and John Reynolds arrested Dr. Hill on a warrant issued by Justice N A. Reynolds, procured by Officer Dea ver on the strength of advices he had had from the State of Kentucky, which were to the effect that Dr. Hill was wauled in Somerset, Ky., on a charge ot man slaughter. Hill was given a preliminary hearing before Justice Reynolds and by him was committed to jail to await ac tion on the part of the authorities e.t Kentucky. Dr. Hill in a statement to the officers explained the cause which led to his ar rest as follows: While lie was practicing in Somerset he was sent tor bv the parents of a sick child that had been given up to die by the physician who had attended it. Dr. iiill began ins treat ment and, he savs, the child began to improve. But at this point, he claims, medicines which he did not prescribe tor the child were administered, it bee;. in growing worse and' finally died, l'lien he says, it was charged that it was his treatment that killed the child. Dr. Hill's wife is said to lie a very no"ii looking quadroon. Otlictr Deavir s;t that when Hill had told his story. Mrs Hill remarked, "Who ever heard of loot and herbs killing anybody ?" Dr. Hill will be held tor'tlie arrival ol requisition papers. It is said t hat requisi tion for him had been made upon the governor of Tennessee, inwnieh State, in the town of Oakdale, he had been ar rested, but before the papers arrived In had given bond and came here. 'No,' said Mr. lenkins, 'but he is most generous and liberal. He gave us $6,000 recently for our church, the Bap tist, and helps irrespective of denomina tion.'
