consists of ten Democrats and six Re
publicans. On the question of the re
peal of the State bank tax, the Republi
cans. Messrs. Walker, Ihoiius, Russell,
and Johnson of Indiana, arc all count
ed .gainst the proposition. Couuted
with t'-"m are Springer and Spcrry.
The Democrats who are counted in favor
of repeal are Messrs. Cox, Cobb of
Missouri, Culberson, Cobb of Alabama,
Warner, Blin k of Georgia, and Hall of
Missouri. This leaves the committee
eight and seven with Johnson r Ohio,
doubtful.
The men against repeal say that l:c is
surely with them and the repealers say
that he will support them if tliev repeal
certain propositions which he desires.

The services at the First I'resby ttrian
church yesterday morning were unusu

through Miss Garrison's energy that the
first kindergarten work ever known
here was established in a building near
the old depot. Anil in doing this work,
which has since been followed by such
Rood results. Miss Garrison became the
pioneer in kintlergar t( n work in this
i city. Kecause ol this fact and because
-Miss Garrison was a close friend of the
family of Geo. V. I'ack, the new Kinder
garten building in North Aslieville,
erected by Mr. 1'aek and presented to
the Aslieville Free Kindergarten associa
tion, was given Miss Garrison's name.

was during last winter and spring. A
friend here received a letter hom her a
couple of weeks ago in which she said
her health was very good. The news of
her death, therefore, was a surprise to

and devotion of the entire congregation

that Mr. Campbell's he.dth, which had

much benefitted by Asheviile's invigorat
