How ""lie onict-ra Nabbi-d The Negro Wanted Iu Cleveland A neat capture was that made yester day afternoon wheu deputy sheriffs ar rested and jailed Lawsou Howard, a colored man wanted in Cleveland county on a charge of murder. The scene of the capture was the old Murdoch house, a mile and a half north of the city, occu pied now by n colored family. This house had been searched a few days ago, but Howard had evidently scented a mouse and skipped. 1 Yesterday the ottu-ers located Howard. When they approached the house they were seen by Howard, who ran from one room across a hallwav and into another room. Deputy Hampton saw Howard as he rode up, and hastily dismounting ran in and tound Howard braced against the d or. A hnrd shove forced the door and the bunted man was run down. Howard made no resistance and threw up bis bands at the first command, lie was brought to the city and placed in jail and the Cleveland authorities noti ced. Howard admitted to Jailer Jami son that he was the man wanted. He stands six feet two and weighs over 200 pounds. Theni'irder with which Howard is charged was committed in upper Cleve land January 19. the victim bting Hula Jones, and whs the result of, il is thought, a dispute about a calf. Last night Howard got John Allison, a "trusty" in the jail, to wiite a letter for him to Julius Brooks with whom Howard had been living. When it was written Howard wanted Allison tn s' lid it to Brooks. Instead Allison delivered it to Jailer Jamison, who turned it over to Deoutv Sheriff F. M. Jones. The letter was as follows: "1 am captured and in jail. Flense sec all your friends and have them annul to help me tonight, for 1 am alraid tlicv may lyrch me tonight Flcnsedon't lot get this. This Senator also said that until definite information was received from the Treas ury Department as to the lull effect of the ' ilson hill, as it stunds, nothing will be done. A private letter was received here last night which gives the material facts con cerning tbe killing of young Willis Mor gan at Mars Hill, Wednesday night, This letter says that Morgan bad gone to J. R. Sams' twice during the evening to see Mr. Sams' daughter, and had been told to keep away by the father. Mor gan went back tne tuna time, ascended tbe steps at tne porch ana was then seen by Mr. Sams, who again or dered the young man to leave. The warning went unheeded, Morgan get ting ou the porch. Then, the letter says. Morgan drew a pistol, whereupon Mr Sams sh -t and k I led him. It is supposed tbat Mr. Morgan wn- buried at Mars Hill today. John F. Morgan, the father of tbe dead man, is expected to return to Asheville tonight or tomorrow.
