This sign was at the store of A. D. Cooptr, dealer in staple and fancy groceries, cor ner of Main and College streets. Mr. Cooper stated that they sold a great deal of these celebrated coffees, and that they have customers who buy it, even if they have nothing els;. Washington, June 2C When the tariff bill was taken up in the Senate today Hill withdrew tbe amendment be bad offered Saturday to strike out the pro vision exempting interest on United States bonds from the operation of tbe tax. Hill said his object in offering the amendment was to call attention of country to the fact the $305,000,000 of property in government bands were necessarily exempt from the opera tion of the income tax under tbe law. Although theostensible purpose of the income tax was to reach wealth and equalize taxation here was an enor mous investment capital which the in come could not reach. Hill then moved to exempt state, county and municipal bonds, lie argued that the taxation ol stnte binds bv the federal government would be a direct attack upon tbe ad ministration of the states. After an hour an a half of discussion Hill's amendment was rejected, ayes 23, navs 30. Two Democratic Senators (Gray and Ptigh) voted with Hill.
