The visitors won yesterday's game from
Spartanburg by suierior hatting. They
bit James freely, unci bv bunching their
hits netted a total of six runs, four being
made in the fourth inning and two in
the fifth. Stephens pitched a beuutilul
game and was well nii;h iuvincib'c. The
locals could do but little with bis deliv
ery. The game was played with snap by
the mountaineers. Only three errors
were made and they did not prove very
damaging. The only kicking done dur-
ng the game was done in the fourth
inning. l nomas got his oase on
balls and scored on singles by King
and James. With King on third James
started for second; he wtis caught be
tween bases and while Mctz and Green
were coquetting with him, Kini; darted
ownrds Home ami by a hcnutitul slide
scored. 1 lie decision was close but he
was clearly safe. The visitors kicked
vigorously and threatened to leave the
field, so for the sake of mace King was
culled out and the locals deprived of a
run they had justly earned.
After this the home team lost spirit
and Asheville poured out base hit niter
