STATE DEMOCRATIC CLl'UH Aalievllle Delegatea Appointed For The Meeting At Rale'icb. The first part of the eclipse will be visible from the Western parts of Kuropc and Africa, hut the most ol it will he seen only by jicople in North and South America. Hellenes lu Ashevllle'a Future. It is expected that the cooking cchool that met here early in the summer with such success, will soou open lor another session. So many ladies who, for various reasons, were prevented from attcuding the previous lessens, expressed their regret and their eagerness to join a class at some future time, and the fo:iner scholars were so enthusiastic for a ther course that Miss Clarke has about decided to give Asheville the licm-lit of tbe opening lessors, in her tour ot the Southern cities. Miss Clarke's work during tw summer has all tended towards the nrenaratiou of a varied and instructive program for the fall lessons. It will be very dilV.rcnt Irom the one pursued in the summer school. Asucvillc's market, which Miss Clarke assures us is the best in the South, is now stocked with different vegetables, fish, etc. Oislcrs, noduubt, in a variety of forms, will be prepared and served to the class. Young housekcei.cis, especially, will be interested in learning a number of new and delightful wavs to their husbands' hearts, and it is said there will be a great ninny brides and youthful matrons among Miss Clarke's pupils. As the race of good old-fashioned colored geniuses of the kitchen passes awav, and no new dynasty arises in their stead, the South ern wonieu arc beginning to take mat ters into their own hands. Tbe "Silver Tovicued" Coasressman- An Attack ou Owens Which He Resents. Lexington, Ky., Sept. 14. The friends of Hon. Y. C. Owens here this morning fur-L,re denouncing in most scathing terms Urcekinridgc's efforts to cover their can didate with dishonor at this late date. After being adviccd by his friends that Col. Breckinridge laid given out to press here an interview in which he was barged with being ejected with a young woman from a Louisville bote), he tele phoned the following statement at 1 o'clock this morning : 1 am informed that Urcckinridgc says that, with a woman I represented to be my wife, I sought admission as a guest ol some hotel in the city of Louisville, and that admission wns cither refused me or that I was required to leave the hotel after having been admitted as a guest thereof. 1 urn unable to learn the time, place and circumstances of the alleged incident and am therefore unable to contradict the infamous falsehood as circumstantially as 1 would desire. but I can, however, and do now pro nounce the story as communicated to me is absolutely false, and 1 will further say that at no time or place or under any circumstances did I ever, in company with a woman, represented to be my w ife, ask to be received nt any hotel in the citv of Louisville or elsewhere; that at no time or place and under no circum stances whatever have 1 been refused ad mission to any hotel in Louisville or elsewhere on account of any actual or assumed relation to any woman, or turned out of any hotel in Louisville or elsewhere, on account ol any actual or ussuined relation to any woman, "Without qualification, I prononec the whole story as a base and baseless falsi fication, made with intention to drive the Democrats in Ashland district from supporting me, and who are determined that district shall not be dishonored." The women are all over Urcekinridgc's district todny urging voters out lor to morrow's primarks. Their presence is having much to do do with preventing a light, llallots have been printed and distributed. The election olliceis have been notified of their duties from head quarters, checks have been cashed and money divided and sent through the district. The best work ou election day, on all sides, will be done in this citv. The prospects are that it will be "give and take" the day long. There does not seem to he any chance for fraudulent voting or false counting, as each candi date has a representative as election officer. The best politicians arc behind Breckinridge, and all ol the known methods lor vote making arc being em ployed by them. They are working as though it were a matter of life or death and concede that the in ll tit nee of the ladies is their greatest diliiculty, miTHERK HV-iINEHH. II Is lu a Hopeful Condition.
