The big burglar-proof safe which was used In the First National bank has been sold to a Richmond safe brokerage firm and was shipped Thursday by Fred A. Hull. Ttie safe weighed eight tons. It had been stored in the basement of the Hilliard build ing since last May. The original cost was $1400. " N. C. Dr. Waltci Hilliard sewed up the lip. "The officers arrested two youthful tramps near the Southern transfer shed yesterday afternoon. When ar rested the boys were sleeping on a box at the rear end of the platform." the Salisbury Truth-Index states. "The youngest of the two gave his name as B. G. Harley. aged 17, and home Asheville. The other was W. A. Ward of Charlotte. He, too, was quite young. Both the boys were locked up and given trial today for vagrancy." Tomorrow the Feast of the An nunciation being the day set apart by the Woman's auxiliary of the dis trict for special instruction and inter cession, the three services at Trinity church will be in accordance with the teachings of this feast day and its proper influence upon woman and her work in the church. The bishop will preach both at 11 a. m. and D::J0 p. m. The offering at 11 a. m. will go to re ducing the rect5ry debt and the after noon offering for the work of the Woman's auxiliary. A fox" chase, attended ny about 2".t ladies and gentlemen, was an event of yesterday. The fox was a red one, oM and strong, and he was released on Carrier hill, just above the old race track. -About 75 enthusiasts followed the hunt on horseback. Reynard was given a 35 minutes' start, and S. K. Cunningham's pack of 22 hounds were released on the trail. The chase lasted about 50 minutes. The scent was good and the fox crafty and elusive. Harry Smith was in at the death and won the brush. He peresented the honors to Miss Charlotte Prime of New York, who won them by being the foremost lady rider.
