Allison, conducted In the grove of Weet Chapel yesterday afternoon by Rev, O. H, Chrlsten berry. The body arrived at Blltmor Sat urday afurnoon and was taken to the home of Mr. Hugh Brown near th church where It lay during the night. It was In charge of Mr. P, E. Hare, of Hare, Bard and company, one of Allison's last request having been that "Pat Mare take charge of my body." Karly Buoday morning many people from Ashevllle and th sur rounding country called at ths horn of Mr, Brown to view th body. From early In the morning until th time of the funeral a steady stream of people moved by curiosity to tk a last look at th remains of the dead man called and were shown the body. At the time it the funeral It wss seen, that the church could not hold the enormous crowd which had gath ered to hear the service. It wus de cided to use the grov and seats were moved from the church to the Krove. Tree were tilled with people and the groud was laterally covered with those who had gathered for the fu neral. A great number of Aahevtll people attended th funeral and iult a number of country people also gathered In the grove to witness the service. Various estimates have bean made ss to tha number of people who attended the exercise but a con servatlve estimate Is probably th one made by one gentleman who stated that three thousand people saw ths body at the home andUve hundred attanded the runersl. Rev. Mr. Chrlstenberry read thi burial servlc and th letter from Al llson asking that he be burled from the church and giving warning that his example we not to b followed, He expretsed satisfaction that under th Influence of a Raleigh minister and other good people of .that city he had been led to see th error of hi way and had bean forgiven for th many n which he has committed. He waa ready to. die and was glad that th governor of th state had deemed It unwise to forbid hi eieo trocutlon. Many friend of th dead man and hi family sent flower to be placed upon his gravo, and th Brotherhood of Locomotive Knglneer. of which his son Is a member, sent a hand' om wreath. r: ( , 4 t JEALOUS HUSBAND IN ANGER ASSAULTS WIFE Vara Poker and Draws Raxor for Action When Interrupted by tho Polk A little family jar which w par tlctpnted In by John and Ilte Pen- land, colored, created quite a bit of Interest on McDowell street ywitarday morning when It I said poker and rasor war flashed In quick succes sion.. After expressing his appreciation of having th privilege of addressing this meeting, the speaker spok of th pleasure It gave him to visit Ashevllle. where he ha a number of friend. Ha said that he could not deliver a declamation, for that he did when in school, but that ho would talk from th impression of th In ner soul. He took no special sub ject for the occasion, but sold that th word of Emerson, "I wilt build my not on th greatne of 0d." made a strong Impression on; him when a youth and had followed him through life. It was upon this ex pression that he based a greater part of hi speech. Another ' expression he heard when a youth, and on that always had a tendency to blight his hope and aspirations was, "There 1 nobody that Is a Christian In all this country, except women, children and weak' minded men." Th speaker said that ho had worked to overcome this false Im pression although it linger with him. H aald that It had been proved untru because "th finest scholar, th ablest orators, th greatest thinkers and th best people In th world hav said 'I will build my nest on th greatness of Ood.' " Mr. Strlngfleld referred to a visit, h mad In South Carolina' where he was ashed how North Carolina suooeeded in enforcing It prohibi tion law. Th speaker replied: "I, m acquainted with moat of the Judges of th state, and with possibly an exception of two, I would not hesitate In calling upon them to mak a Sunday school speech or lead ln family par." Ha oontlnuad by saying that th finest men in North Carolina In, the court house and on the Judicial bench. In tha school room and th pulatt. or Id th high est moral social circles are men who are trusting In Jesus Christ." in (peaking of th times when he had camped on Craggy mountain and other peaks, ha said: "I looked around and viewed the lofty peak la all tholr glory and said Vlthtn my soul. 'Oh. what a great God I th Uod of th mountains;' I ad' mired the flower and said. 'Oh. what a great God In th God of the UUy;' I saw the lightning playing in th ky abov aad around me and thought "Oh. what a great God la th God of the heaven.' After descend ing, I chanced to read thl passage of schlpture: 'Whan I consider th heaven; the work of Thy fingers; the moon and th stars, which Thou hast ordained; what Is man, the Thou art mindful of him ? and the aon of man that Thu vtaiteat him? 1'Vr Thou hast made htm a little lower than the' angels and hast crowned him with glory and honor. Theu madest him -to have dominion ever the work of Thy tiand; Thoa hast put all things under his feet. " In referring ta the music of the club of twenty men, the speaker said that It was a pity that they could not go forth from church to church and teach the people what good mu sic is. Later referring to the musla of the singer and that from the In struments, Mr. Strlngfleld said that he would have yelled when they were singing, and playing, but It would not have ah own good taste.
