Jl Jl The annual concert of tho Alhevllle high school laat evening In the Audi torium was undoubtedly on of the finest heard In , the city for several year. Barring the youthful appear ance of the large chorus, one would have imagined on going into the the ater that a profeaainnal concert was In progress so well did they sing. Th chorus of girl and hoy had evidently been drilled for some week past, and they tang uncommonly well, following faithfully the positive and intelligent baton of the conductor. Mi May Klmberly. Mis Klmberly, a musician whose special gifts ar too well known t eulogise at this lata day, grow in her muslo njor mature and finished each year, and baa th facujty of Im parting her knowledge to some ex tent to tha ohoruse under tier direc tion. Tha color afreet were splendid, and th crscndo wall worked up. so well that ona chorus had to he re peated. ''The Building of th Ship." by "Ungfellow-Lhe, is a work giving both aololeta and chorus an opportu nity, and th orchestra) accompani ment a strong background for th vole. Mra. Francis J. Clemenger sang th soprano solos, and her beau tifully poised vole has neven been 'heard to better advantage. Tha high er notes were at tyrtfful a th mid dle register, and she sang with agree- ble esse. Mrs. Kthel Henderson Thompson, of Baltimore, made hor first Ahvllle appearance, which,' It I hoped, will not, ba her last. Mrs. Thompson' contralto voice, showed splendid training and la of rich qual ity. Mra. Thompson received much applause during the evening. Mr. J. O. Btlkeleather waa In good voice and gang the two solos allotted to the ten or with artistic appreciation of their value. The baritone music of the cantanta was difficult and Important and could not have been sung satls factorlly at short notice, and In view of this fact Mr. C. T. Carr was pre vailed upon to alng as originally In tended. Mr. Carr sang remarkably well and the applaua waa tinged with appreciation, the audlunce realising that owing to his very recent be reavement, and that he came straight from tha train, he sang under diffi culties and protest. In th first part of the evening Ml Ellssbeth Ram sey, with charming expression and grace of delivery, recited and respond ed to a wall deserved encore with n quaint jllalect recitation, "Whon An gelina Dancea," whioh was also warmly applauded. Mis Viola Own. ny matio an excellent accompanist oml special mention should be made of the playing of the orcheetr. the n.inic of which wa not mentioned. Th lat ter played the difficult . music of the rrtntati throughout and added great ly to the fine (ffect anC result.
