The first Important undertaking to
be started In Ashevllle as a result of
the nation-wide campaign of the Kpts-
copal church, is a club in Biltnvore
village for the use of the men in the
government hospitals, which hopes to
open its doors early In January- The
enterprise is to be conducted Jointly
by the three parishes of Trinity,
Ashevllle; St. Mary's, Ashevllle, and
All Souls, Biltmore, and has the ap
proval of the bishop of Ashevllle, the
lit. Rev. J. M. Horner. ,
Mrs. Vanderbllt has most gener
ously given the club the uho of the
Did parish school building, which
makes an Ideal club house, and an
enthusiastic committee of women is
working vigorously on the furnishing
ana ntung up of tho rooms.
It Is planned to have a reading
and smoking room, where books ami
magazines and games will bo found,
and a cafeteria where light refresh
ments win De provided at a very small
charge. The club house will bo open
from 2 to 5 in the afternoon, and
from 7 to 9 in the evening, under the
ohargo of ladies from the three par
ishes, and it is hoped that it will
prove to be a thoroughly oleasant and
friendly place for the convalescents to
pass some of the hours that are apt
io hang very heavy on the hands of
men who are sick and away from
home.
The club Is to be known as the
Church Canteen club. The board of

Corny ('. Buchanan, of Hylva, cen
sus supervisor of the Tenth district,
has announced the additional ap
pointments of enumerators for all the
district, outside of Ashevllle and Bun
combe, the workers for the city and
county having been named several
days ago.
The enumerators will begin work
on January 2. Mr. Buchanan states,
and In Ashevllle will finish in fifteen
days, while the workers In the rural
sections will be allowed 30 days in
which to complete the Job. Pally
reports of every enumerator will be
sent to Mr. Buchanan's otlice and he
in turn will send the reports to Wash
ington. The workers for all the counties,
