Their Value To Church and State Davidson is one of our old and honored colleges. Its contribution to North Carolina is beyond estimate. Its halls are crowded and scores are being turned away. These Colleges for Women are furnishing some of the best school teachers in our state. Wherever one is found there a force in the school room for real Chris tian Life is at work. These Home Mission Schools are furnishing the basis of a Christian Education to hun dreds of isolated poor youth, most of whom will never get more than they obtain here. From them occasion ally emerges a rare spirit capable of great leadership worth all the investment in all these institutions. From all of them filled to overflowing there is con stantly going out into the channels of the Church and State a Life Giving Stream of Trained Christian Leadership. What Others Think About Christian Education Dr. W O. Thompson, President Ohio State University "TJie denominational college supported by the church may become the best expression of religious freedom in teaching that the generation knows. My ' conviction is that the church will be not only traitor to its own interests, but also recreant to its duty to the State if it shall relinquish its emphasis upon these religious fundamentals. There are elements enter- ing an education which the church owes to Society to supply." Dr. Benjamin I. Wheeler, President University of Califorpia (At the Inauguration of the President of Occidental College. ) "We know at Berkley, just as well as you know, that a man who does not live a relig'ous life, and the man who is not religiously trained is not half edu cated. There is at this time, throughout the whole country, a tide setting strongly toward the develop ment of the small college. We believe, those of us who have had experience, that they have opportun ity more distinctly than the large institutions of recognizing hpw truly education is a matter of the life and the spirit." The Late Jas. J. Hill, Pioneer Railroad Builder of the Northwest 'The small Christian College is the hope of Amer ica. Character is essential to statesmanship, and these colleges are vital factors in the development of sterling character." He once said to a friend with evident happiness: "I have sixteen colleges on my list to which I have given large sums." Germany Has Proved What Intellectual Culture Minus Christ Can Do. Europe Knows Nothing of the Church College. Fortunately in this Country we have the State and Church each Acting and Reacting on the other for Steady Educational and Religious Progress. This two-fold system will yet prove our greatest power against Anarchism and Bolshevism. . .. . : tm.x If you believe in Christian Educationif you believe that North Carolina needs these institutions if you want to see this Campaign for One Million succeed then help now.
