At the hour set for the funeral of Fergus Btlkeleather, well-known public-spirited citlaen, the city fire bell wae rung out of respect to the former alderman, who died Thursday morn ing. The deceased was secretary of the first hook and ladder brigade of the Are department. F.uneral aervtcea were held at 4 o'clock at tha reaidence. No. 2 Aaton place. Rev. E. K. Bellamy, fourth aaaiatant postmaster general will be preaent for the annual convention of the North Carolina Rural Letter Carriers, ac cording to information received by ofllcers of the association yesterday. The convention will be held tn Ashe ville July 4. and 5 and it la expected that there will be a large attendance from all sections of the state. WUl H. Hays, postmaater-general, has not replied to the invitation ex tended him to be present, but it la hoped that hia answer will be favor able.
