Excel iant churches, ably miuistervd unto, good schools, as good as the best iu the State, surpassing hotels, and polite peacible and industrious citizens, if Edenton fails in progress the cause cannot be ascribed save to that old enemv, well named by the letters, W. O. N."T. The new addition, recently made, to the Woodard House adds greatly to its rear appearance and supplies the urgent demand upon its popular Land lord for more room. The side-walks ' on Saturdays, are made a perfect nuisance by the fruit and candv vendors who orcupy them. Complaint against them w b comin"- universal. They attract crowo that complete! v blockade the public thoroughfares making them, in some places, not only impassable but convert ing them into perfect pandemoniums. Saturday was a stormy day in town three tights and one arrest. The pai re arrested was charged with an as sault with a deadly weapon, to wit: a min. Defective or not it answered his purpose until Tour got his coon (cap) and went on. Our Business Manager returned last ni-ht from his trip to the Frauklm Fair ami Portsmouth and Norfolk. He re ports the fair as being a fine one and in evtrr war a success. Large crowds attended. "The exhibition was excellent, the racing good and pretty girls were in abundance.
