STEDMAN IN THE LEAD FOR GOVERNOR. MANY THINGS OF MANY MINDS AS TAKEN FROM OUR EXCHANGES. Pender county has instructed Stedman for Governor. for The Convention at Henderson was solid for Alexander. Falcon. Beaufort Record favors Stedman for Governor and Skinner for Con gress. W. D. Pruden was endorsed for the Supreme Court by the Currituck Democratic Convention. Dare county has decided for Sted- ,maQ a8 the next gubernatorial caudi- of the Democracy. jfew Jersey and Connecticut Dera ocrnts in State conventions enthusi astically endorsed Cleveland. Ex. i mere is a strong ieenn among the people and delegates ot Greene county for Stedman for Governor. Hon. Louis C. Latham has with drawn from the Congressional contest, so we are reliably ress. in formed. Prog- Give us Stedman for Governor and the State at large, and the Demo I cratic party is safe. Dunn Enter I prise The unaminity with which Mr. W. D. Pruden is being endorsed all over this district is only a slight indication of the high esteem and great appre ciation our people who know him so well have for him. He is recosmized y the lawyers of this district as the peer of any man in the State. His peer ot any man in the state. His friends love him for his many virtues and admire him for those character istics that make him a great and noble man. E. City Falcon. Ye are not personally acquainted wjth Maj. Stedman. but we have never doubted his ability nor his integrity, and for ought we know- lie would make an excellent Gover nor. But the people of a group of counties in this section feel the ne cessity of having a man in the sub ernatorial chair thoroughly in accord vitb them in there efforts to carry out any practical scheme for the pur ;ose of developing the resources o! the country and extending their facilities for trade and communication with the enterior of the State. If Maj. Stedman is in accord with them on these measures they will give him a warm and hearty support. And if the Democrats of these coun ties are satisfied on this point, then they ought to go in the Convention with a solid vote. rew Berna Jour nal. We see it stated that the Hon. Louis C. Latham, now in Congress, will refuse to go before the Conven tion for re-nomination. On what authority this statement is made we know not. Maj. Latham numbers u-- j u u among his friends men who would . t 5 J z 1 & work day and night for his election, if nominated, but his political enem- les are many ana suoDorn. ir ne again comes befor the people, in our opinion, ms success is exceeaingiy doubtful. E. City News. The News again says, "We maybe mistaken, but we think the withdraw al of Clark and Jarvis makes the nom ination of Stedman for Governor, al most a certainty. Judge Fowle's friends are very active, but it seems to us that he has not elements of leadership needed in the present cam paign and could not poll the full strength or the party. Uf the men lj prefer Stedman or Coke. r- - - - - - - . Maj. Stedman is a gentleman emi nently qualified to fill all the require mentsofa candidate for Governor. He is bold and aggressive one who ! will not hesitate to pour hot shot into the Republican camp. He is in the prime of mental and physical vigor, and is the best organizer in the State. Jarvis not excepted. No man in the State is a better debater; no man in the State has a greater power to awa ken an enthusiasm nmong the masses. Maj Stedman comes from the great Cape Fear section, where the people 5 wunu ""mi- nation, a ins tecuon u&s not naa a chief magistrate since the days of Governor Dudley. It is now time for the people everywhere to unite the teople in the Cape rear section and nominate the gallant soldier true patriot. Maj. Chas. M. Stedman. Stedman is strong in the west aa well as the enst and he can poll a tre mendous vote. His Democracy c:n not be questioned; his principles are those of a trne ' statesman, and his record is a beacon light to everv Carolinian. The dpe Fear section presents the name of Char es M. Stedman to the Democracy of N. tl. Carolina and respectfully lequtjstis that he. he nominated as a cauuidaie for Governor. Cor. News-Observer. To express it as one of his comrades who was with him in the first Regiment N.
