Igish, The EDENTON, A WORD TO THE NEW COUNCILMEN OF EDENTON. In the very beginning we want to say to the newly elected Board of Councilmen that our people demand, for the next ensuing two years, a good government regulated by wholesome laws generally and rigidly enforced. They have elected you, only with that view, having confidence in your judg ment and in your willingness to work and make sacrifice for the good of the community. In your election you are highly complimented and we trust you feel that you are, if not, you had better resign at once and give the place to others who appreciate the compliment of their friends and the honor of ap pointment for, no man, devoid of a proper sense of appreciation, can or will ever make anything like a decent officer, matters not the necessity existant for such. Heretofore Councilmen have been slow in voting themselves pay for their services This precedent should be entirely disregarded. You are entitled to pay and good pay for every day you give the town as an officer The day For doing service, simply for the glory of the privilege, is past never again to return. Every laborer is now consid ered worthy his hire whether he be President, member of Congress, Gov ernor, Justice of the Peace or member of a Board of Common Councilmen. He who offers to do anything for noth ing is righteously suspected either of inefficiency or design. Watch that man who volunteers his services to a railroad or, proffers his unremunerated energies to a bank. If only he has a chance somebody will suffer effects, either of omission or commission, to their hurt and. perhaps, permanent injury. Vote yourselres pay, gentlemen, at your very first meeting for organization When we see you placing some value on your own services, we shall suspect them as important and valuable to the public. You are to elect a Mayor and Chief of Police, make them rigidly responsible to you for their good conduct and let the public hold you responsible, as it will, for the order, the peace and the common good of the people. The Fisherman and Farmer will watch your course and will take pleas ure in noting your every act in behalf of good law and the general betterment of our municipality. When you dare to do right we shall praise you and when you presume to neglect, or do violence to your obligation we shall arraign you, calling each of you by nam?, before the bar of public opinion for censure and, if need be, for shame. Combining with the best element in this community, we are determined upon local improvement and we pro pose to run our paper along this line though at the expense of sacrifice. A SOUND LEGAL OPINION. E. Bainbridge Munday, Esq., County Atty.,Clay Co., Texas says: "Have used Electric Bitters with most happy results. My brother also was very low with Malarial Fever and Jaundice, but was cured by timely use of this medi cine. Am satisfied Electric Bitters saved his life." Mr. D. I. Wilcoxson, of Horse Cave, Ky., adds a like testimony, saying: He positively belives he would have died, had it not been for Electric Bitters. This great remedy will ward off, as well as cure all Malarial Diseases, and for all Kidney, Liver and Stomach Dis orders stands unequal ed. Price 50 cts. and $1.00 at Dr. W. J. Leary's Drug' Store.
