"Your beauteous face is just as fair As when, ere Lent came in, You banished sweets and took to prayer To keep you free from sin. 4Your golden hair is just as fine As when, six weeks ago, You sippsd with me a glass of wine, And let ma kiss you so. 6kThoi"e is no change. Your eyes betray Their old time sparkle now. And fasting has not stol'n away The mischief from your brow. 4If yeu are, then, no better, dear, Than when last time we kissed. Why have you been so "prim austere? Just think what we've missed." He ceased. She sighed "My love, "said she, "I really thought it best. To keep this Lent, because, you see, I had to have a rest." SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE. The numerous bank failures through out the country most; certainly suggest that something should be done m the matter of making more ntringent bank ing laws. It is a hard matter these times to pick up a paper without seeing where some bank has closed its doors and eft the depositors to howl outside. It is true rot only of state and county banks, but of national banks all styles and classes seem to be having hard luck. Money in many cases has been loaned on property assessed at fictitious values and the depositor must whack up be cause of the poor business judgement of the bank officials. It would seem that the legislatures are direlect in their duty when they fail to make laws which will protect the depositor as is also congress, which wittier sc3 frn.; voav to year doz:3 of national bank failures. Something is wrong, and in these days of speedy trips to Canada and bo many aluring deals in options, it is hard o tell just who will or will not go wrong. Bank examiners, for the most part, are to blame and something should fee done. Durham Globe. THE NEW COLUMBUS ENVELOPE. The canning interest is being vig orously pushed in West Tennesse, which section is a great grower o berries, tomatoes, etc. Jackson Mc Kensie, Sharon, Union City, and other towns are putting up factories of f oin 10,600 to 20,010 cans annual capacity. These movements have stimulated the truck farming busi ness in that reg on, perceptibly. Gibson couaty alone will score an increase f 1000 acres devoted to truce this year.
