The attendance was a little larger than ever before and a number joined who had never be fore atti Hated. These annual meetings are partly for pleasure and partly for actual business purposes Mr. Jerome Dowd, of the Mecklen burg Times, was elected President, an office that had been gracefully fiU led by Mr. E. E. Hilliard, ol the Scotland Neck Democrat. The citizens of Newbern entertained the visiting editors verf kindly, givs ing a steamboat excursion, a carriage ride around the city, giving the visit on a chance to view some of the many beautiful truck farms in that vicinity. On the night of the 27th an elegant supper was given in the Y. M. C. A. Hall, and when the table was cleared the orators selected for the occasion entertained all with their frit and eloquence. Full board in attendance. Min utes of last meeting read and approved. On motion, the following business was refered to the incoming board: The drain across the Theo, Ralph prop erty, the tax on skating rinks, Over charge on J. K. Rea's tax for 1892. The report of Wm. M. Bond on leases was accepted and Clerk was ordered to issue notices to parties holding leases to appear.bef ere this Board at next meeting. The undersigned reports as follows coacerning the leases of the town.: 1st The commons to Agricultural Fair, terms stated on town records page 43. 2nd, The commons to W. H.Hollowe,I, lease in writing began Jan. 1st ?91, and runs to Jan. 1st '9S. Rent S10 per year payable Nov. 1st. Terms, to be kept in rerair by lessoe. An electric Railway, which will shortly be constructed from "New York to Philadelphia, will carry pas sengers the entire route at a speed of ninety miles an hour, and it is stated that a similal line running cars at the speed of 100 miles aa hour will soon connect St. Louis and Chicago It is believed that in a short time the electric system as means of Joconaoti on will, in a large degree, be adopted by many of the roads wjiicb.up to this time have cot thought proper to use the system.
