Congress seems to be at a what to do first. loss The Baptist State Convention will meet next vear at Greens- boro. The papers of the State report the fanners as planting a much larger acreage of grain this year than in previous years. Though no longer Governor in name lien Tillman is still the power behind the throne i South Carolina; it is said that when Tillman takes a pinch of snuff young Gov. Gary sneezes. Suooose we learn to raise 4. X chickens, hogs, eggs, butter and vegetables for market and let 3 cotton severely alone. At the present price of cotton a good sized hog will bring more money than can be procured for a bale of that staole. and it will not cost over one quarter to raise hog than it will to make a bale of cotton. There is no use of rais ing cheap crops when we can raise expensive ones a great deal cheaper. Our people can make fortunes by engaging in any of the business mentioned. Ex. North Carolina has had a de lightful autumn. Our people are freer from debt than they have been since the war and in spite of croakers they have plenty of money laid to one side. In fact they are better off than any other people in the world. It seems strange to us that any one living in this beautiful and prosperous Southland should complain of hard times. We have a delight ful climate, fertile fields, glori ous harvests, lovely women and everything that should make life pleasant. Rocky Mount Argo naut. Christmas i.. near at hand, and ye that have the means should not forget the poor. Right here in our midst there are some poor people who need assistance; and there are some poor little half-starved and half clad children who have no Santa Claus to give them, and who will no doubt weep while your chil dren rejoice at the coming of that glorious and happy morn. Let us then devote some "f our mon ey to bringing sunshine into shaded places. A dollar sent to a woman who never had a penny for indulgences for the children will drink a flood of happiness. The people of Kentucky seem to have put into practice Judge Walter Clark's recent suggestion as to how lynchings might be prevented.namely, by the prompt arrest, trial and execution of the criminal. A man was convicted in Madison county, Kentucky on Wednesday last for a murder committed on the previous Fri day, and an early date has been set for the execution. There is no doubt of the fact that delays of the law in such cases have caused much dissatisfaction, and are responsible for many lynch ings in both the North and the South. If punishment for crime were surer and swifter, there would be few crimes committed and better order preserved. Ex No man is too poor to take his home newspaper, and it is lalse economy to get along without it Hardly a week passes that some thing does not appear in its col umns that will be a financial benefit to the subscriber, and by the end of the year he has made or saved from one to twenty times its subscription. A QUARTER CENTURY TEST. For a quarter of a century Dr. King's New Discovery has been tested, and the millions 'who have received benefit from its use testify to its won derful curative powers in all diseases of Throat, Chest and Lungs. A remedy that has stood the test so long and that has given so universal satisfaction is no experiment. Each bottle is positively guaranteed to give relief, or the money will be refunded. It is admitted to be the most reliable for Coughs and Colds Trial bottles Free at W. I. Leaiy's Drug store.
