Shepard declined to vote for Spruill 011 the ground that the convention by which he was nominated, opposed him. That's thereason thev advertise. The Councilmen have created a new office that of Street Com missioner, which they gave to J. H. Robinson at a salary of $25 per mouth. Duties of the office are to look after the condition of the streets and act as assistant police, Dandruff forms when the glands of the skin are weakened, and if neglect ed, baldness is sure to follow. Those who desire to know what the aldermen are doing, how the business of the town is being con ducted, how the city's cash is be ing spent, &c, will be compelled hereafcer to attend the meetings of the Board, or to live in igno rance. No provision has been made for publishing the pro ceedings. Mr. Walter Hughes, the paint er, will leave next week for Washington county, where he will be engaged for the next few weeks in painting some houses. He is quite a fine workman, prompt, reliable and steady and we commend him to the public. See his ad. in this paper. No more publication of the proceedings of the city council men. The Fisherman 6c Far mer's contract having expired the editor appeared before the Board 011 Tuesday to ascertain whether or not lie should con tinue to publish the proceedings of their monthly meetings. The matter was immediately tabled. The Windsor Ledger in alluding- to the address of Prof. Sledd says: Prof. Sledd made an elo quent and impassioned address for over an hour on the needs of educating the masses. Pie soar ed to lotty -heights of eloquence; his periods were well rounded; his words were as musical as the rippling waves of the brook over its gravelly bed; lie was grand; he was sublime; he was heroic; he was pathetic; he touched the hearts of his hearers and set them on fire with his zeal and the truthfulness of his utterances. No such an address on a like subject has been heard in Wind sor before.
