They were brought here at noon, given a preliminary hearing and committed to jail in default of bonds. They gave their names as lollows : John Jones, aged about 15 years; Johu Wii Hams about 23 years ; Henry Jones, aged 13 years ; and Frank Williams, 15 years of age. They claim they are all from different States, but met at Norfolk, where they organized for the purpose of robbery. John Jcues says he came here last week with another negro and the two robbed Sawyer & Jones' store. They returned to Norfolk, told their comrades of their work and planned a second trip which they made last night, leaving one of the band in Nor- folk, the one with Jones. who first came Not mauy businesss houses in these United States can boast of fifty year's standing. Morrill, Port Tampa, Fla., June 10th, 1898. To Fisherman and Fanner : At 7:30 this morning we were ordered bv the ffaership An napolis to get underway to es cort the 32 Transport ships to sea. As we manned the wind less to g.t up the anchor the last ship passed, No. 36. The flagship of the fleet is No. 12 which has Genl. Miles and Schafter aboard. We are now gm& out from harbor be hind the fleet and when they get to sea they will form in num bers and proceed to Key West to meet Sampson with the Indiana and other ships. There is about 28 thousand troops 011 these 32 ships and each ship has on board a brass band which fur nishes plenty of good music for the soldiers. I'll tell you to hear these bands would make any American go to war. The loud cheers of 28 thousoud sol diers were heard this morning as each ship passed the other acd as each band passed us they were playing the "Star Spangle Banner" and other airs. To day will be the lonesomest day Port Tampa has seen in two mouths, although there are few soldiers left yet to look after the batteries. I hear lots of people say it is going to be hard for" those boys to get ashore on Cuba, but my opinion is that when the Indiana get there and throws a few 12 inch shells over on shore they can land most any where and I am sure the rest will do their part, say the Puri tan and Terror with 12 and 13 inch shells. I intended to write a short piece of our little battle off Ha vana some time ago but did not. I had rather it could have been so you could have seen it and then published it for your read ers. We are now off St. Petersburg which is about 7 miles from Port Tampa. This is the place where all the fleets have been furnished with water and it is the nicest place that I have seen since I left "Old Betsy". The flagship Annopolis of our fleet is just behind us making the fleets all together 38. The gunboats with us are as follows : Helena, Hornet, Castiue and Annapolis; these have been guarding the ships while load ing here. The report some time ago that there was ttiree Spanish gun-, boats ouiside of the Bay, wait ing for the ships to move was untrue. We were sent on pa 4rol three days after the report and did not see anything of them. We only wished we could ; we would have tried to amuse them for a while. Well we are here together laying to anchor awaiting the word go. At 3 o'clock the An napolis sent up sig'nals saying all up anchor for Key West to meet Mr. Sampson's Fleet; so they started out in line with each band playing and every body cheering as they passed. 37 boats left, but we are to remain 1 here until further orders. But that was one time I wanted to go with the soldiers. J. M. H. A LITTLE BOY'S TROUBLE. -'My little boy has been troubled every spring for the past four or five years by an eruption covering his body and limbs. It was so bad he could not get on his shoes and stock ings. Last Spring I heard of Hood's Sarsaparilla, and by taking this medi cine, be was entirely cured." SIrs. Nettie Ryan, Winchester, Va. The President is busy receiving call er. It is officially stated that no important communication has been received today, but it is believed that a communica tion of a private nature was re ceived from General Shafter last night. Eluded American Ships. Kingston, Jamaica, June 22. The Spanish steamer Puris sima, supposed to be loaded with food supplies and a hun dred thousand dollars in gold, is reported as having eluded the American ships and arrived at Trinidad. A Kansas colonel ordered each of his men to take a quart of whisky along to war. This was to be 'used for bathing the feet after marching, but at last accoants the Kansas regiment was said to be about the most tender-footed one in the entire army. Cleveland Leader. Does Baby Thrive? If your baby is delicate and sickly and its food does not nourish it, put fifteen or twenty drops of Scott's Emulsion in its bottle three or four times a day and you will see a marked change. We have had abundant proof that they will thrive on this emulsion when other food fails to nourish them. It is the same with larger children that are delicate. Scott's Emulsion seems to be the element lacking in their food. Do not fail to try it if your children do not thrive. It is as useful for them in summer as in winter. .
