The ponderous hands on the four dials are operated by meacs of air under great pressure forc ed through tubes, and all tour nairs of hands are controlled by one little master clock that could easily -e set on a library mantle piece. This little clock, as it ucks a .1 the- minutes, received bv tele graph from Washington Obser vatory, in turn releases the com pressen air, and over each dial 400 pounds of hands are pushed forward. The hands are moved every half minute and the jump of the minute is six and one halt inches. The pressure excit ed is 700 pounds sufficient, it is said, to drive the hands under any weather condition. However, electricity is really ... .
