Democaats Very Much Encour aged by the Political Out look of the State. Chances of Carrying the Amend ment Considered Good. Chairman F. M. Simmons has issued a call for a meeting of the Democratic State Executive Committee to meet at Raleigh on Monday, December 1 ith. The meeting will be held at the Yarborough House, at night. Though no object of the meet in ;s stated in the call, it is supposed that it is simply for a conference. The Democrats, as a Tide, are v-.ry much encouraged by the political outlook in the State, L .y the propels for carrying the amendment by a big major ity are considered good. MANTEO. Miss Mary Etheridge, of Roa noke, and Mr. George Rogers, of E. City, will be married Weds nesday evening, the 29th at the Baptist church. Rev. N. P. Stall; ings will perform the ceremony; after which they will leave on Thursday's boat for E. City, their future home. The ladies of the M. Mr. Philip Pritchard and fam ily, of the Fork, spent last Satur day night with relatives and friends at this place. City return cd home last Saturday. Mr. Jim Jones working for the Hiutou Shingle Co. while help ing to load a truck had the mis fortune to get his leg broken. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bufkin of E. City, was in New Laud last Sunday on a visit to Mr. M. W. Bufkius. Mr. Charlie Harris living near PI City has gone to Virginia on a visit. Mrs. Nancy Morgan living Bear E. Rev. R. C. Beamon, of Eliza beth City, will preach in the Methodist Church on Thanks giving Day at 11 o'clock. Mrs W. J. Moore has left lor Winthrop, N. C, to visit her husband who is at work there lor the Roper Lumber Co. Mrs. Sarah Abraham, of Bah timore, Md., has been in the city visiting her two sons and her daughter Mrs. D. Levy. Mr. E. L. Woodard has sold to Mr. B. F. Francis two of his stores on lower Cheap Side, cor ner Broad and Water streets. Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Worth en tertained a number of their Edenton friends a few evenings ago at Pembrook, their home. Mr. J. P. Coffield, an ex-resident of our town, now of Nor folk, was here this week visiting his brother and other relatives. S. P. Wixon has moved his stock of groceries further up town occupying the store re cently vacated by N. J. Hollo well. Mr. Theo. Ralph and force cf carpenters that have been en gaged in erecting a mill at Bel haven lor about five weeks have returned. Mr. John Stephenson, the clever manager of the Branning Manufacturing Company's store, is off on a visit to his parents, at Rich Square. Judge Westcott and wife and Miss Hogen, of Pennsylvania, are being entertained by Mr. aud Mrs. J. W. Branning at their home, on Broad street. Last Sunday four persons con nected themselves with the IvI. E. Chu.ch and at the evening service at the Baptist church four were received by letters. The Chrysanthemum Tea and Bazaar given by the ladies of St. Paul's church at Colonial Hall was decidedly a success. The hall was furnished handsomely. Col. John Holmes Grover gave an illustrated lecture on the "Civil War, the Spanish American War and the War in the Philippines" at Rea's Opera House, November 22d and 23d, for the benefit of the Edenton military company, Mr. Jack Elliott, one of the aged citizens of Edenton, died last Friday night and was bur ied Sunday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Cowan conducting the funeral service at the Baptist church. The Masons, of which order Mr. Elliott had been a member for a number of years, took charge of the remains at the cemetery and they laid to rest their departed brother. Miss Lillian Flora, of Tulls, spent some time here this week the guest of here cousin Miss Mamie Lee. Rev. R. R. Overby was with us Sunday and preached two ex cellent sermons morning and night to a large attentive Audience. Mrs. J ii Cox ieft Tuesday to spend a few la with relatives and friends in Norfolk and Berk ley and to attend the marriage of Miss Florance Cox. The two Misses Fentress and Miss Overstreet, of .Norfolk, re turned to their home Monday after spending a week here very pleasantly the guests of Mrs. J. D Whitehurst. A Beautiful Marrage at Berkley Ave. Baptist Church. Berkley Va., Wednesday event ing Nov. 22nd 1S99, Mr. Char les H. Culpepper.of Portsmouth, Va., aud Miss Florence E. Cox daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Cox, of Berkley, were married by Rev. T. C. Skinner pastor of the church. Miss Mamie E. Cox sister of the bride was maid of honor and Mr. Claude E. Cul pepper Jr., cousin cf the groom was best man Messrs. E. L Cox, W.J. Heard, J B.Morgan, R. L. Cox, W. C. Culpepper and David Cox Jr., were the ushers. The wedding march was delight lully rendered by Miss Mamie West. The bride wore a lovely traveling suit of brown cloth trimed in fur, the church was beautifully decorated with How ers, evergreens and potted plants, and although the church is quite large there was not room for all the people. The fourth quarterly meeting for South Camden circuit will be held at Perkins Chapel on the first Saturday aud Sunday in December. The sportmen of this vicinity are having some right good sport now shooting the quail. They report right many aud those who have been have had good luck. Rev J. Y. Old preached an excellent sermon at Perkins Chapel last Sunday to a large an attentive audience from the words : Take heed, therefore, 'now ye hear." This is his fare well sermon unless the confer ence should return him to this circuit for another year, which is hoped for by his many friends in this community. Steamer Conoho, of Baltimore, passed thiough the canal Mon day enroute for Belhaven with a crowd of Bohemien men, women and children who will engage in oyster packing. Capt. Burfoot Garrenton took Misses Lucy Taylor and Susie Hall on a sailing expedition Monday up Indian creek with his schooner. The wind ceased to blow when about five miles from home'!
