Miss Eva Pailin left yesterday io visit friends in Hertford, N. Mr J. L. Sawyer is confined to his home on Main street from illness. Mr. Claud Walker, of Berkley, spent several days with friends here th;s week. Mis. Ida Simpson spent a few days in Norfolk this week on a visit to her uncle. Mr. E. F. Aydlett's new brick building ou Water street is very near completed. Mrs. John Wood, of Edenton, is visiting her mother Mrs. Col. Martin, on Church street. Holmes & Co.. the new mil liners, will have their spring opening Monday, April 2nd. Mi-s Lina Gilbert, of Camden, will return Saturday to assist Mrs. A S. Neal in millinery. Miss Mary Bell, of Bramble- ton, Va , is visiting Mrs. W. H Heath, on Pennsylvania Ave. Many green shamrocks were worn last Saturday in honor of Ireland's pa.ron Saint Patrick. Mrs. L. Selig and children have left on a visit to relatives and friends at Norfolk and Rich mond. Quite a number of oyster boats have bern in port this week, and the oyster houses are busy places. L Tatura, engineer of the Norfolk Refrigerating and Storage Company, was in Eliza beth City this week. Miss Clara Holmes and Mrs. G. D. B. Pritchard have return cd from Baltimore with a choice selection of millinery. Miss Lessie Norris, who has been visiting Mrs. E. F. Sawyer, on Church street, has returned to her home, in Berkley. Mrs. J C. Meekins, of Colum bia, who has been visiting the family ox her son, on West Main street, has returned home. The contract for building tht Elizabeth City knitting mills has been awarded to Chilcutt & Bramble. The woik will begin soon. Zimmerman & Co. have open ed a new mill near the old opera house for the purpose ot making corn meal. They also buy corn and exchange. The local W. C. T. U. will meet at the residence of Mrs. E S. Edenton, N. C . March 19. The funeral services of the late Mr. Joseph H. Perry, who died at his home Sunday morning at 8 o'clock, took place to-day at the residence at Strawberry Hill. Rev. Mr. Willis officiated. Af ter the sei vices the remains were taken to Hertford and interred in the family cemetery, where he will rest by the side of his wife, wko but a few weeks ago passed over the river of death, until the resurrection morn. The deceased leaves a sister, three little cnildren and other relatives, who are grieved at the loss of their loved one. Mr. Hunter Morris was in E. City Monday. Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Stevens were in n. Miss Minnie S:evens and Miss Lillie Dozier were the appre ciated guests of the latter's sis ter, Mrs. J. W. Creekmore, last Friday. Gertie. A Good Han Dead. Durham, N. C, March 19. Rev. O. C. Horton, a popular Baptist minister, who resided in West Durham and had charge of three churches, dropped dead in the church at Piney Grove Saturday at the conclusion of his sermon. He was popular in the community and with hit flock. He leaves a wife and one daughter. The remains were taken to Elizabeth City, his old norae, for inteiment.
