The work on the new steamer is being pushed rapidly forward, and she will soon be ready to launch. Ask your neighbor to subscribe to the Courier and thereby help us to make it the best paper, publish ed in this section. As has been previously stated Rev Dr. C. Durham will, D. V., at the Baptist church next Sunday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Mr. Elbert Riddick's friends here and elsewhere will be glad to known that he has so far re covered as to be out again. B, own is having a very neat office fitted up in the rear of the Hertford Drug store, and when it is finished and furnished it will present a neat appearence. Our Dr. Frank Staton, who has recently received his deploma as a dentist, will soon have his office on church street, in readiness, and we nredict for him a large patron- age. The stock of goods belonging to Speight & Son,who made an asign- . ment a few days ago, has been purchased by certain parties, and the new business will be carried on under the management of Mr. l W. Spring Roods this season are the prettiest we have ever seen in Hertford. Mr. Elmer J Vhite we, learn is to have a small store erected between S. Lipsitz and S. Davis very soon. Sweet, little Mary Hayes is the pet of all our people. No one pass- es her without a word, and she always has an answer. These gen tlemen go from here to E. City. Hertford Drug store has been newlv painted inside, and ha been made somewhat smaller, and a few other changes in the arrang- ment of fixtures have been made. Mr. J. D. Landing and family have moved to Hertford to live. They could not pave come among better people, for Hertford is noted for good people. Oh yesl Oh yes!! Look for the advertisement of W. H. Brown is out of town for a few days. Mr. Walter Hughes was in town a few days, this week. Misses Fannie Skinner and E. L. Kipps spent Easter holidays in Hertford. fever. Mr. White was a good man and a coniistent member of the church millitant. He was liked by all who knew him and he will be missed by his neigh bors ; buthis wife and six children will feel their loss more keenly then anyone else. Josiah Elliott left last week for Hyde county, to be present and assist in the dedication, on Sun day last, of the first Missionary Baptist church ever known in that county. Bro. Elliott has been laboring for ) the Master's cause which is so dear to his -soul, in that county for four years, and he is now to. see some of the fruits of his labor. His whole heart and soul ip are his work for the Master especially in the work at Hyde county. The weather on last Sunday was very changable; early in morning it bid fair to be a beautiful day. About 10:30 aim. clouds made up in he West,and some snow fell,which quickly changed to rain. After the rain passed oyer the sun came out making the weather Spring-like again. Late in the evening clouds tnnHft n n again, and for about an half hour a thunder storm with rain and hail past over. Notwith standing the sudden changes in the weather, appropriate Easter services in j the Episcopal and Methodist churches were held and very largely attended. The sing ing in both of the churches was superb and many high compH ments have been paid. Miss P.
