Et Sasfera Courier. PUBLISHED WEEKLY BY C. H. Horton, - Owner & Manager, HERTFORD. N. C. pME pOLLAR A JkAR IN DTANCE. WEDNESDAY. May 8. 1895. The N. C. Dental Board will meet at Salisbury, N.C., May 15th. The election of town officers passed off very quietly ; everybody seemed to know and act as good citizens alwavs do. The officers elected were as follows: T. F. Winalnro Mavrr W S RlannVi ard, I. N. White, and J. J. Fleet wood, Commissioners. In our next issue, we will give the vote cast for each candidate. The citizens meeting on last Fri day night was largely attended and, from beginning to end, it was harmonious. By no means was it a partisan meeting ; everyone present had the right to nominate anyone he wished to and vote for any of the nominees. There were several nominations. But want space is the reason the other names do not appear in the proceedings published in another column. The Republicans of the town met on last Thursday night, and nominated Joshua Whedbee for Mayor, and S. Lipsitz, U. W. Speight, and J. C. White, col., for Commissioners. An objection was madelto one of the nominees, after the meeting, and another name was substituted. During the meeting on Thursday night a certain Populist made occasion to speak. Whereupon a colored Re publican objected, using words something like these: "This is a Republican meeting, and we don't want no Fusionits in it ; and. if it is not a Republican meeting, I will get out. I'm-no Populist." : THE CITIZENS MEETING. The citizens of Hertford, pursu ant to a call, met in the Court House, last Friday night, to nomi nate town officers for the ensuing year. -Upon motion, W. R. Shan nonhouse was made Chairman. The object of the meeting was briefly stated. On motion, T. F. Winslow was nominated for Mayor.- On motion, W. S. Blanchard, J. J. Fleetwood, and I. N. White were nominated for Commissioners On motion, a' vote of thanks was tendered the town officers for their efficient work the past year. It was moved and carried, that the proceedings of the meeting be published in the town papers. There being no further business the meeting adjourned. W. R. Shannon-house, Ch'm.. C. H. Horton, Sect'y.
