Thatch & Major has arriv ed. The boiler is expected in a few days. ; Our colored citizens will lay the corner stone at their Academy to day. They anticipate a grand time. The town officials met last Fri day night and transacted some very important business, which will be seen at an early day. ' . i We hear that Mrs. J. W. Hayes, who resided in this town a few years ago, died last week at her home in Washington, N. C. The three tramps that were in town last Wednesday are supposed to have taken "a sleeper" on the North bound freight, that night. Mr. T. J. Jackson, of Edenton, a first-class brick mason, has taken the contract to do the brick work on the new stores, which are. now in progress. While playing a game of base . ball at E. City, last week, the first basemen, of the juniors, Mr. Cran ford, broke one of his legs in slid ing to third base. Both teams belonged to E.
