The Baptist Sunday School will jive their annual pic-nic to-day 4 ne week. There is to b another excur sion to Nag's Head Saturday, on the Lakewood. A hachelor is a monument erect ed by woman to commemorate a dead hope. The tiling that was order by our Town Commissioners, has arrived and it will he put down at once. Owing to the illness of Rev. F. A. Bisho , no services were held in hi? church in this town, last Sun day. Mr. Win. Blanchard is having two dwelling houses Erected on (Jrubb street, near Covent Garden street.. The many friends of Mr. Sidney McMullan will be sorry to hear that he is sick. Nothing serious we hope. - The young people are looking forward to the near approach of the time for them to leave for pchool. The young men gavea moonlight excursion down the river, last night, in honor of the visiting ladies in our town, Mr. James Byrurn, of Chowan county, died on the 4th inst. in the 79th. year of his age. He was buried Monday. Rev. Mr. Munns filled the pulpit at the Baptist church Sunday. The pastor was absent at Salem church, to assist in the ordination of Rev C. D. Graves. Mr. Jud. White, brother of Mrs. C. F. White, of E. City, is not ex pected to live many days longer. Rheumatism has attacked hie whole body, with the exception of the brain and heart. Miss Sallie Ward has charge of Mrs. D. A. Koonce millinery busi ness, during her absence. Our people know Miss Sallie, and they also know that she will wait on them with much pleasure. Mr. G. B. Burgess, the photo grapher, has closed his business and he will in a few days leave for Murfreesboro, to take charge of pome mission work in that section. Our best wishes go with him. If you want one of those new sailor hats at the Misses White's you had better get one at once, as they are going cheap, and every body is taking the advantage o the low price asking for them. Mrs. Howell, of Berkley, is visiting Mrs. Jack Ward. Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Small left yesterday for Nag's Head. Mr. M. H. White is expected Friday, from Lexington, Ky. Mr. MilesProctor and daught er, Bertha are visiting in Hertford count v. Misses Bettie Parrish and Annie Dean are visiting relatives and friends in town. Messrs. Robt. Perry and John Reed McMullan expect to spend Sunday in Edent-n. Miss Emma Trotman, after delighting her many friends iir Pine Town, returned home Friday. Miss Mary Suiter expects to eave to-morrow. She has madf a pleasant visit to the Misses Blan chard. Mr. E. L. W. Ferry Jeft last Thursday. Mr. Robt. Perry takes his place as clerk in the store of C. W. Morgan & Co. Rev. and Mrs. Wingate and Miss Bessie Hunter, Mrs. Win- gates sister left yesterday for a month s visit in Gates county.
