ORIGIN OF THE CAROLISTS OF SPAIN Charles VII, of Spain, commonly called Don Carlos, is a personage by no means to be despised in the existing emergency. Of all the countless political factions that distract the situation, the Carlists are always to be reckoned with. The pretender has been giving the world his views of the situation, but -.h'ey all reduce themselves to the point that Carlos is ihe legiti mate kingof Spain, and he intends to assert his right by force at the opportune moment. Ferdinand VII, the great-grandfather of the present pretender, laid the foundatiod of this Carlist claim, by the marriage of Princess Christina, of Naples. The issue of this marriage was a daughter, Isa bella. Upon the death of Fer dinand, in 1830, without male is sue, th constitutionals succession would have been in the person of Don Carlos, the kings brother But the queen mother of Isabella suc ceeded in .having the legitimate king st aside and Isabella placed upon the throne. Th descendants of the brother of Ferdinand have never vielded their claim to rivals. There have been three of these pretenders. The first was Don Carlos, the brother of Ferdinand VII ; the second was the son of the first Don Carlos; the third is the present, pretender, the nephew of the second Don Car los, The pretension is bassed upon the unconstitutionality of the suc cession of Isabella in the place of the first Don Carlos. Every one of the three has made unsuccessful attempts to establish his rights by arms, and all have failed. The Carlist claims have always been supported by powerful part ies. The present Don Carlos is watchii.g the course of Spanish events with extraordinary interest. The latest Carlist manifesto was made recently at Brussels. It is unnecessary to say that Don Carlos does not live in Spain. I was seriously afflicted with a cough for several years, and last than ever before. I have used many remedies without receiving much relief, and being" recom mended to try a brittle of Charaber lajn's Cough Remedy, by a friend, who, jc nowing me to be a poor widow, gave it to 'hi1, I tried it, and with he most gratifying - remits. The first bottle releived me very much and the second bottle has absolutely cured me. I have not had as good health for twenty ypars. Respectfully, Mrs. Mary A. Beard; Cfaremore, Ark. Sold by R. Shannonhouse. Mr. P. Ketcham of Pike City Cal., says: "During my brother's iate sickness from sciatic rheuma tism. Chamberlain's Pain Balm was the only remedy that gave him any relief." Many others have testified to the prompt relief from pain which this liniment affords. For sale by V. R.
